I'm sure there are definitely some like that, yeah. Especially back in the Gen III era, when playing Pokemon was considered to be a Scarlet Letter of sorts.
In recent years, though, it seems like it's become fashionable again, and almost everyone I've come across accepts it. I think HeartGold/SoulSilver was the turning point; I know that was what got me interested in the series again, as well as many of my friends.
