newbie has you trumped on probably every intellectual facet, so if you're lumping me in with him I am probably doing something right.
uh, he's smarter than me at some things that he specializes in, yes. just like most people who specialize in something are smarter than the average person at that thing. don't let his overbearing attitude intimidate you into thinking he's smarter than he really is. there's a lot of stuff he doesn't know jack**** about and still tries to talk about it like an expert.
additionally, for as much as he knows, he is awful at applying that knowledge to real world discussions in meaningful ways other than showing off factoids that he knows that the common person wouldn't know.
unfortunately for you, though, I wouldn't even put you on his level. just making a similar comparison between when you can clearly tell a discussion is going nowhere and put an end to it before wasting any more energy trying to argue with someone who isn't going to contribute anything meaningful to a discussion.
