On the flip side, because of Paine being there they went all out with the bubblyness for the other two.
If she wasn't so dark maybe Yuna at least would have been played more straight.
Well, Square clearly wanted Yuna to be more "bubbly" in FFX-2 to show...something, so they were going to put in a third "straight man" in there one way or the other. If it hadn't been Paine, it would've been someone else.
And they made Lulu pregnant to make sure she wasn't that someone else.
