I'm not sure how the chess thing is a reference to SBaHJ just because they had a strip about chess!
Also I thought cotton candy was a direct reference to the Roxy Maplehoof flash, where they show the words "cotton candy" when Roxy and Jane are ambiguously kissing.
no that's obviously what the term cotton candy refers to, but when dirk says "my ****ty planet doesn't have it" he's alluding to:
