burial isn't forward-thinking or progressive at all. that's never been his thing. sure, he popularized pitchshifted vocals in uk bass music, but he's a nostalgia act. a very good one. he mines edm scenes (rave, jungle) in decay and tries to bring out the optimism those collective scenes had at their height.
actress, i dunno. i feel it's more reactionary than progressive. his contemporaries are fully absorbed in bass and synths and hedonism so what does he do? make a personal ambient record.
i like that talabot record, though. i'm a bit harsh on it but it's a fine pop record, outside of the cheesy moments. i just think it's weird to compare it to burial or actress.
