The romance wasn't bad either, I'd call it understated if anything. I mean there was a tender moment as they fell asleep under the stars, Portman crying over Thor's dead body, and then the kiss when he went back to Asgard. I mean that was basically it. I can recall like one lingering shot while she first drove him the car to retrieve Mjolnir, but it was literally about a 2 second gaze. Didn't bother me in the least.
Think of it this way - for the amount of time she had on screen, what did she really add to the film, outside of being a plot device?
