I really don't think Tifa didn't say anything out of compassion or concern for Cloud, but rather because she was every bit as confused as he was. I'm not trying to justify the action, but rather that I understand why she never said anything. How do you even begin to bring that up? And I don't want to hear "if you're a decent human being you'd say something" or any crap like that. The fact that she didn't know how to say it or tell him makes her more relatable and understandable as a character, not less. You can hate her for it all you want, have at it, but I do understand it.

(Also Tifa trying to tell Cloud the truth wouldn't have really solved anything because her version of events was wrong, too)

Now it's time to bail on this topic

She doesn't suck as a human because she failed at helping the world. (in other words, yes, she could have told Cloud what she "knew" to try to save the damn planet, and it was somewhat wrong, but she did not know that, so it would not have been her fault).

She sucks as a human because she put her 8 year old crush above the life of every single inhabitant of Gaia. Trying and failing is not the same as not trying, even if both would have led to the same result.
