You guys overreact too much. There is nothing wrong with ignoring someone who is rambling your ear off about things you don't care about, regardless of what may be wrong with them. I've dealt with a lot of terminal and handicapped people, and all any of them want is to be treated normally by everyone else.
Ignoring someone with verbal diarrhea is quite a normal reaction, and ganging up on someone for doing this just because you don't like them only proves you're a bunch of mob mentality 20-somethings still in high school who needed to grow up years ago. There would be no white knighting in this topic if the guy rambling were a random terminal bum on the street instead of a relative.
Ayuyu isn't the worst at all, though obviously he has his issues. A bunch of otherwise intelligent and insightful guys acting like children, however, is pretty goddamn pathetic. If you care so much about the stories of family members, try remembering the one your parents probably told you about ignoring the people you don't like.
This dude is saying that ignoring a dying family member is the right thing to do, because if he was actually nice to him he'd only remind him that he's dying. It really is not hard to be nice to people, even people you dislike. Doesn't Ayuyu work retail? I'm sure he listens to stories he doesn't care about every day. It's not hard to extend the same courtesy to family members. I would under any circumstance, like "oh we're visiting and they wanna talk about their life." They're family, you listen to their stories even if you don't care about them. Or when people are dying and just want to make a connection with someone, you listen to them even if you wouldn't normally. It's called "having empathy" and it seems to be something Ayuyu lacks completely. When I read this story I don't think "man that uncle sure does sound annoying" I think "I'm glad that such an uncaring self-entitled brat is not related to me."
There is no hive mind, Ayuyu is getting the reaction that is appropriate. Most people deserve the reaction they get here. There have been some who don't, but this isn't one of those situations. And for what it's worth you have been involved in more than your fair share of B8 bullying, probably more than anyone else here. And now you're lecturing us for thinking someone is an awful human being for doing awful human being stuff? Get that s*** out of here.
