TopicPeople who keep talking to you even if you clearly don't listen are the worst.

My 71 year old grandpa went through chemo. His skin turned green as an adverse affect to the radiation. The doctors at his hospital had no clue what was wrong and had never seen that reaction before. He was bed ridden for 6 months before passing away.

He used to talk my ear off about Vietnam and stories of his youth, neither of which I was interested. There were some good ones but a lot of them were tedious.

What did I do?

I asked him everyday to tell me more stories.

When you're on your deathbed, the most scary thing is to think that no one will remember you after you die. Having people listen to stories about you is comforting because you know at least someone out there might remember you.

Your uncle just wants to make a connection with you. Death is scary. The least you can do is listen. The most you can do is actually care.

Thanks for reminding me that not all people are terrible human beings.
