Flubbin, who seemed to have settled slightly to the situation before him, voice suddenly changed to a much more serious tone. “Even if I had a game plan, I think it would be unwise to tell it to the whole world, so I guess you'll just have to wait and see.”
“Ok…” Ayv said, slightly taken aback by the sudden change in maturity and confidence by the young man sitting before him.
”And I'll be completely honest.... I know that my chances of winning are incredibly slim. But don't you think for a damn second that I'm not gonna give it my all. I'd love nothing more than to win for all of the good people back in District 3. Actually, you know what? I'm gonna have to apologize to all of the other tributes, because I am going to win.”
The whole room fell silent, slightly shocked by the steely determination just displayed by Flubbin. One person then stood up and started clapping, which was suddenly followed by every other person in the room, and Flubbin had gotten the loudest cheer so far. Flubbin responded and pumped his fist in to the air, generating an even louder cheer.
Backstage, Ryoko glanced at Chris and rolled her eyes as they were watching what was unfolding on a TV in their dressing room.
“Kids always become a crowd favourite.” Chris said, undeterred by the audience reaction to his fellow competitor. “We have nothing to worry about. He’ll be dead within ten minutes of the start.”
“Wow listen to that roar!!” Ayv exclaimed, clapping along. “Give it up for Flubbin Sixman!!”
Flubbin got up, clapped the crowd, and bounded off stage. He greeted his fellow 3er, Halo, at the stage entrance.
“Good work kid” Halo smiled, giving him a pat on the back.
“Thanks” Flubbin smiled back, and walked towards his dressing room.
“Wow!” Ayv said “What a competitor! Lets see if his fellow tribute is as exciting! Give it up for Halo Shadow!!!”
The theme music cued ) A man in a very basic jet black suit with white shirt and black tie walked out on to the stage and waved to the crowd. He hadn’t gauged as much excitement as the kid that came on before, but Halo expected that.
“Welcome Halo.” Ayv greeted the man sitting before him. “Brave kid on before you huh?”
“Oh yes!” Halo agreed. “Much more ballsy than me!”
The crowd responded with generous laughter.
“So obviously Halo, first of all I have to ask you about the very moving scene we all saw on the live viewing of District 3’s draw selection where you said to your fellow tribute, the young Flubbin, and I quote ‘I got your back, ok kid? Don’t you worry about a thing’.”
The crowd cheered and clapped at the mention of this, which was one of the highlights of the Draw Day’s action.
“What did you mean by that? Did you mean you are planning on protecting this kid in The Games? Would you sacrifice yourself for him if it means he won and left the Arena as the last man standing?” Ayv finished his question.
