Many gay marriage bills were largely defeated in 2008 in highly democratic areas. The theory behind that is increased black voter turn-out due to Obama.
there is a difference between voting on referendums/legislature/etc and voting for candidates
No self-respecting black voter is going to vote for Romney over Obama purely on the issue of gay marriage.
