honestly, i never felt compelled to 100% a game until trophies came around.
it feels nice to have some kind of validation for wasting hundreds of hours on one game
Agreed here. I never had any intentions of 100% GTA games on PS2, for example. All the side missions like from the police car and fire truck, etc, and all the packages and whatnot. But if I had played that on the PS3, and the platinum was something I could reasonably obtain, and that was one of the trophies, I'd probably go for it.
There still has to of course be enough interest in continuing to play the game. I like collecting trophies and especially going after platinums, but only if the game is good enough to continue playing after beating it, and if the platinum is reasonable to obtain. I wouldn't call myself a trophy whore. But the platinum trophy (and sometimes just individual trophies) is a reward for doing things, and a sort of badge of honor, and I like working towards those goals and getting that sense of accomplishment when I achieve it.
