FFXIII has a system in which you see enemies on the map but the movement to battle isn't completely fluid. It is quite quick though.
Anyway, it's very fast-paced which is enjoyable. You set up quick burst-like rounds of several attacks and then your character commits to them while you choose what to do next. There are also six job class-esque things and each of your party members gains access to a few, and they each have their own distinct little edge to each one and you can choose them on the fly, in battle.
It's pretty neat overall. The progression system is like a step back from the Sphere Grid though and again, the narrative isn't especially enjoyable. One of the weaker entries in the series in that regard, for sure. Some of the characters are decent though.
