It's mostly for having a mini portable computer. Long trip? Video, music, whatever you want it's there. Want some games? Wouldn't recommend much in terms of what Android has available, but depending on how good the phone is you can do some older emulation. Now yes, some systems don't do that as easily, but still. If you are on contract then yes, the hike they nail you for a forced data plan sucks. Prepaid is cheaper, simpler, and you have more control over it. Considerably more. I mean the not caring is understandable, but it's pretty useful, and once you have it going back is impossible.
