So um
I re-watched seasons 1-3 of High school DxD in anticipation of S4, after finishing them and starting on S4 I was more than a little shocked to find the visual change so.. dramatic and I don't mean that in a good way. I legitimately don't think I can watch this new season because it's just so ugly in comparison to the originals, I get that it's a different animation studio but.. no, I really can't defend it, not cool at all.

About Darling - the moment aliens showed up it all drastically went downhill. Like if the author got sick and story was finished by his kid.

Yeah
That really made me shake my head, after that happened I set my expectations for the rest of the episodes accordingly

Finished up darling in the franxx. Watched from episode 17 to the end in this sitting. I feel like I can't say much without spoiling something. I guess it was pretty good though. Idk I guess I need time to process it all. A lot happened in the last few episodes. Glad I finally sat down to finish it off.

Heh
I literally just finished the last episode if it myself.
Like you I'm not sure what I think of it, a friend of mine saw it and really disliked it but... I don't really think it was bad, I mean there is a lot of melodrama but it does fit in with the theme of the show, I was also shocked that so few characters were killed off, I was expecting at least half of the main cast to get KIA at some point, even Hiro and 02 seem to come back at the very end too

If I've only seen F/SN (that I can remember), what's the preferred order for watching the Fate series?

For the best experience I'd recommend watching Fate/Zero first and Fate/Unlimited Blade Works after and if you can search around to find it I'd also recommend watching the first movie of Fate/Heavens Feel too, it's all good stuff.

Also I don't recommend watching any of the spin-off stuff like Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya or Fate/Apocrypha though because it's all, in my not-so-humble opinion, hot trash

Ah good, you can now add anime to your list again on MAL.
I didn't mention it before but I just got done watching all 4 seasons of Jojo, overall I'd say it was pretty good but I do feel like Stardust crusaders was- up until the last 10-ish episodes of the second season- a low point in general. I do think that Diamond is unbreakable turned out to be better than I was expecting and the stands were more fleshed out and interesting imo

Almost finished my Monogatari re-watch
I'd actually realised that I hadn't seen season 2 of Owarimonogatari or Koyomimonogatari. this time I did and started with Koyo which turned out to be a really good idea given how S2 of Owari directly continues on from where Koyo ends.
I have to say that I wasn't expecting the twist about what "Ougi-chan" really was but upon reflection all the clues were there, really good stuff, I'll be looking forward to Zoku whenever it comes out

On my anime side of things not much has been happening, since the new season is a far cry from being finished I've decided to re-watch the Monogatari series and yep, it's still great

I'm actually a huge digibro fanboy, but I don't agree with much that he said. The things you mentioned are kinda different from what he said. But anyways, it's a big case of rose tinted glasses, and that anime's always been like this; he just doesn't scrutinize for bullshit that old anime pulled.

Very true, older anime was variable in quality too and a fair share of it wasn't that good so acting like that wasn't the case is pretty silly at best

I_Abibde posted...
If I get started talking about the Digibro video, I might be here for a long time, so ... all I am going to say is that I am starting to suspect that 'mediocrity' is code for 'moe anime' for people who are having those 'state of anime' discussions. *shrugs* I learned not to mind the moe (see: Gochiusa and New Game!, among other recent examples), since it has been a big thing in anime for a good fifteen years now, but there are still many who have not been converted.

I don't watch moe so I won't hate on it, rather I think it's just another genre that isn't doing any harm so it's all good to me, more variety is always good

YoukaiSlayer posted...
I do agree that the anime industry as a whole really fails to capitalize on a lot of obvious things. You get something great like cowboy bebop, have a great similar show with samurai champloo and then boom, never again. Why? It's not like that type is THAT hard to write and we only have examples of it being successful.

Code geass might even be a better example. That was essentially a super show with massive popularity and high ratings and they just never bothered to give us anything like that again. It was arguably similar to deathnote, another idea that was just dropped after success. The concept of guy gets supernatural power and takes on the world with strategy is immensely entertaining but they for some reason decided not to copy the s*** out of that like they did to something like SAO with all the isekai. It's like they don't want money or something.

And I have to quote this because I agree 100% with it (plus Code geass is a fave of mine)
More stuff like that would be great
Also, I do like how some of the better shows i.e Made in Abyss, Hero academia, seven deadly sins and March comes in like a lion are getting proper extra seasons when I thought they'd be the usual "one and done" affair, I'm glad to see that isn't/won't be the case and I hope that continues with other shows as well.

Like, if you cropped the anime out of the image, the bear actually is pretty good for a CGI model bear. But this is anime, and it looks so fucking gross when contrasted with anime.

Houseki no kuni had a lot of CGI, but they did well to blend it with 2d animation, practically flawlessly.

Holy hell that looks bad, speaking of awkward CGI scenes (among other things) I wanted to share this vid with you guys:

I watched it and agree with parts of it but I've already been thinking most of the things that are mentioned anyway. Anime really has been playing it too safe these past... many years but that is exactly why the more original shows stand out so I don't know how "good" or "bad" it all is.

I just want more complete anime's I think, I've been burnt too many times by incomplete adaptations :(

Just finished S2 of March comes in like a lion, it was pretty great overall, the whole Hina plot line was handled well and did a good job of showing that there is no easy solution to deal with bullying and the effects that it has on other people.

Rei's character growth was also good though I would've liked to see more of Kyouko since I find her interesting, the only question now is will it get a S3? I hope so because I could easily watch more of it.

Oh and I'm now totally shipping Rei with Hina because they make such a cute pairing and with how Rei thinks of Hina it sounds like the beginnings of love but he's unaware of it

New topic time I see, I just finished my second anime of last season which was Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai, I thought it was okay, these Isekai shows are popping up everywhere now it seems, they mostly seem to be- for lack of a better phase- anime junk food, as in they aren't anything special but they are entertaining enough so it's okay and it is okay... but I still wanna see more Grimgar because that was one that turned out to be more than junk food.

So now I've started my re-watch for the first season of March comes in like a lion before I move onto the new season, even just watching the first episode makes me realise how much I enjoy the world of this series, time to watch more methinks...

Just finished my first anime from last season which was Mahoutsukai no Yome, I was initially taken aback by the lack of action and the slow-paced story but when I adjusted to the pace I thoroughly enjoyed it, the designs were great (especially the shadowy-monster things), the music was great and most of all the artwork/animation was fantastic. I was really impressed by the amount of work that was put into it and after finishing all 27 episodes I could quite easily consume more of it, great stuff

Finished dragon ball super, would not recommend honestly, pretty inconsistent and poorly planned, feels like they just made most of it up as they went.

Only arcs really worth watching is the God of Destruction Beerus Saga and the Future Trunks Saga.

Heh, I just finished it today myself and thought the same, the Future Trunks arc really was the peak of the series imo

The ending was so blegh Goku losing Ultra instinct because it was an "accident that it happened" is some pretty awful writing, the only good thing about the end was the fact that 17 won the tourney which I liked because I thought he was a good character throughout the arc, 17's wish was easy to predict but bringing back the magical girl squad and Kale and co? noooooo!

I've been waiting a long while for 0 too, I highly enjoyed the original and have no doubt I'll enjoy 0 too.
Next season is just looking great in general imo, there's:
-The continuation of Seven deadly sins S2
-Hero academia S3
-Tokyo ghoul S3 (S2 disappointed me but I still kinda like the series)
-High School DxD S4 (For those "close the curtain" moments)
-New Full Metal Panic! (I've been waiting a loooooooooong time for this one)
-Hitori no Shita: The Outcast S2 (The first season was fun enough)
-Persona 5 the animation (eh, I liked the original P4 anime well enough to give this new one a try)

So yeah, some good stuff I think, also it's nice to see anime's getting second (or more!) seasons, I'm sure that many of my anime-only watching brethren know the pain of single-season only anime's that don't finish the story all too well :(

When you've seen a good chunk of anime it does get a lot harder to find things that you actually want to watch, my completed list is at the 500+ point now and since I don't watch stuff that's airing until it finishes airing I tend to just re-watch a lot of stuff instead or try to find something older that I haven't seen.

For example I finished watching Claymore a few days ago because I hadn't seen it before because it looked like it might be interesting (it was), right now I'm watching Gungrave for the first time too- again because I thought it looked interesting- both of these shows are over 10 years old now which is something that I've noticed happening more recently with me watching older stuff because most things from around 2009 onwards I've already seen (the things that I want to see anyway)

Geez, it's been forever since I posted here, I've been watching some newer anime, first up was S2 of Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans, I liked it up until the last 10 or so episodes where it took a nosedive and crashed into the ground. Speaking of nosedives after that I saw Devilman Crybaby after doing my best to get over it's "art style" (and lack of budget) and found it to be an interesting premise.. until the last few episodes where I called out pretty much every twist that happened because it was practically signposted, that combined with that excuse of an "ending" didn't best impress me and left me with a bitter aftertaste, not good.

Oh and I also saw B- The beginning and it wasn't bad but I hope they continue it eventually given how it ended
