The difference between Johnson and Jo was that Johnson was very moderate and pulled voters from both parties (me being one of them, I voted Biden this year). Jo peddled anti mask rhetoric and seemed to prioritize property rights over civil rights, alienating social liberals such as myself, and really only appealing to diet conservatives who hated Trump's character. Which is why she got 25% of the vote that Johnson did, but I also do believe that her votes did in fact steal from Trump. Gary Johnson votes were the ultimate Schrodinger's vote... a vote for Gary, a vote for Trump, a vote for Hillary, and a wasted vote all at once, depending upon who you asked.

Didn't pay much attention to her, b/c this year I was so fucking pissed off that even though I'm not in a swing state, I wanted to repudiate the clown in chief w/ sheer numbers of votes for his rival.
If that's true, I wonder how much she cut into his margins, though historically Libertarians have been pretty evenly split and probably a bit more Dem-leaning. also note there's Green and other 3rd parties taking liberal votes, too.
I think besides from Johnson's own credentials (successful and well-liked 2-term Republican governor of a blue/purple state) and being the best candidate running that year, you also have to figure in how godawful the two main choices were in comparison. At least this year, we had Biden....he's not great, but decent enough.
Also, people didn't actually think Trump would win in 2016. This year it legit felt like our very lives were at stake. I don't think ANY 3rd party candidate could've made much ground in this election.

In 2016, a CBS exit poll asked supporters of Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson who they would have voted for in just a two-candidate race. Twenty-five percent said Hillary Clinton, 15 percent favored Trump, and 55 percent said they wouldn't have voted at all. Take away that 55 percent from Jorgensen's 2020 Wisconsin vote and you have only 17,221 total ballotsnot enough to overcome a 20,534-vote margin, even if every single Libertarian voter switched to the Republican.

We also have some idea, through multiple pre-election and exit polls, how 2016 third-party supporters voted this time around: overwhelmingly for Biden. The New York Timesexit poll of 15,590 voters showed that of the 5 percent of respondents who voted third-party in 2016, 62 percent said they preferred Biden and just 24 percent went Trump. A pre-election New York Times/Siena College poll of 2016 Johnson voters in six northern battleground states showed 38 percent for Biden, 29 percent for Jorgensen, and 14 percent for Trump.

What percentage of voters backed third-party or independent presidential candidates in other years? The total comes to 1 percent in 2004, 1.45 percent in 2008, 1.75 percent in 2012, and (so far) 1.63 percent this year. Libertarians received 0.99 percent in 2012 and appear on track to get 1.15 percent in 2020.

As election forecasters Kyle Kondik and J. Miles Coleman pointed out in a thoughtful analysis back in May, "Some third party voters are just not gettable by the major parties." The duo also made this plausible-sounding argument: "Generally speaking, we think Biden would benefit more from a straight-on head to head election with Trump, because it would force Trump disapproversa larger group than Trump approvers nationallyto choose the only anti-Trump alternative. If Trump disapprovers have a larger menu of anti-Trump options, some of them might choose candidates other than Trump."

I'm one of those 2016 Gary Johnson voters that was Ridin' With Biden this year.
If he wasn't on the ballot, I'd have either held my nose and voted for Clinton, or picked some other 3rd party. I'd vote for a ham sandwich as president over Trump.

But Biden actually won the popular vote on his first try.

It's a shame Trump was too much of a chicken to run against Obama in 2012.
Joe Biden is beating him by 4 million votes (should balloon to 6+ million once all are counted), just imagine how badly Obama would've utterly destroyed the orange clown.

EDIT: Also, in this election Trump has the incumbency advantage, too. Yeah, Obama would've humiliated him.

Any remaining mail in ballots should lean towards him, and the most overseas/military ballots they expected back was like 8099 or something.

Even if it is, I think it's safe to say the replacement will be hand-picked by Putin, and still hate the U.S. and be in the pocket of wealthy Russian oligarchs trying to get someone in power in the U.S. that will remove the punitive sanctions costing them money.

Liquidate his real estate and other assets and move them to off-shore accounts.
January 2021, has Air Force One fly him to Moscow and return w/o him.
Putin sets him up w/ a show on Russia Today to claim the election was stolen and urge his supporters to rise up in insurrection (gotta earn his keep in Russia).
He avoids extradition and thus never has to answer for his crimes in court, while falsely presenting himself as some sort of Snowden-like martyr "forced" to flee the country.

Finally, it's official!
And Biden's on track to at least equal (EXACTLY!) Trump's electoral college win 4 years ago, and to win the popular vote by at least 3% and over 4 million votes. The most votes anybody has ever gotten for president.

Haven't been keeping that close of an eye on this, but why hasn't NC been called and why the hell is Alaska still at 50% counted?

NC isn't counting more mail in ballots until the deadline (Nov. 12) for them, apparently.
Alaska is even crazier, apparently they haven't counted ANY mail in ballots yet, and won't until the deadline to receive them (I think also around that date).
So they're like...completely on hold this week.

You cited "rules" that don't exist and you can't provide a single shred of evidence that they ever did.
Your case is about as legitimate as a Trump ballot counting lawsuit.

I honestly think a constitutional monarchy would be better.

A setup where you have a "monarch" (not an actual birthright...but it's easier to just call it that) or a "much more powerful president," but also an elected legislative body. The former is mostly in charge of the country, but has no control over the legislature, which can with a large (2/3?) majority override/overrule any egregious laws/policies/decisions or remove the monarch/president from office (leading to a popular vote for a new leader), as a check on him/her from becoming a tyrant. S/he otherwise is fully independent and has pretty wide power to get shit done, to avoid the mire of deadlock and inaction that democracies seem to be doomed to.

Would need a bunch of other protections in place to keep the leader from cozying up to any group of legislators, especially w/ financial ties / mutual benefits. But whatever, that's the gist. One powerful leader that's supposed to just do what's best for his country and given a ton of latitude to enact it, w/ a way to thwart or remove him/her if he abuses his power. S/he like...shouldn't even be able to be in a political party, should be more like a Supreme Court justice...lifetime appointment barring a major fuck up, with no ties to anybody else in power.

It absolutely should either be legal or decriminalized (not the same thing, but either would be a huge improvement).

But this country is still haunted w/ outdated Puritanical morals.
Both the Christian conservatives and SJW/"Feminist" liberals basically tag team to stifle sexual freedom and expression. In fact, instead of gaining ground against their vile forces, those of us who are sane have been on the back foot the past decade, watching rights be eroded away.
FOSTA/SESTA being the most glaring example. A horrific bill conjured up by evangelicals and promoted publicly by liberal celebrities.
Then you look at Australia's crackdown on porn and anime (if only they put in a fraction of that effort towards the wildfires last year!). Or the UK's repeated attempts to force citizens to request a "porn pass" and to ban certain forms of porn they find distasteful (including wide sweeping and largely innocuous categories, not even like the really extreme stuff).
And you realize that currently the forces of sanity are losing the war, and that changing the laws against prostitution can be changed anytime soon is a pipe dream, sadly.

It's really kind of baffling that some people seem to think that businesses are currently hiring more people than they actually need because the low minimum wage allows them to hand out some spare jobs as an act of charity. No, businesses hire however many people they need. There's sometimes room to streamline work flow such that fewer workers are needed, and that effort may become more worthwhile if minimum wage is raised (resulting in some layoffs), but the vast majority of minimum wage jobs will continue to exist regardless of the minimum wage.

Not only that, but when a big business posts record profits and has surging stocks yet issue mass layoffs anyway, the same people making these bs claims against higher minimum wage are the first to proclaim, "they're running a business, not a charity" to be dismissive of the outcry.

Forget where I saw it, but I think I recall reading that as a general rule, Democrats have to win the popular vote by 3% just to have a 50-50 chance at winning a presidential election.
And of course, if they lose the popular vote by any amount, they have no real chance.

Angry Trumpsters are outside and apparently it's being shut down for the night, out of safety concerns.

Not sure how that affects getting updates from other counties there, but what a dumpster fire.

So, there's an angry crowd of Trumpsters protesting outside the Maricopa county building where ballots are counted in the parking lot and CNN is like, "how are they going to safely get to their cars and get out?"

Apparently when it's a riled up crowd of white people, cops forget about their pepper spray, tasers, etc... to forcibly move an angry crowd away from where they shouldn't be.

Trump wins if he gets NC, GA, PA, and either NV or AZ.
