I think marrying a taller woman would be better because besides the insecurity thing, you would have taller sons.

Basically what he said. You can always marry another wife, but you only have one mother.

See it's kinda tied into the religion, the fact that the role of a mother is the highest honor bestowed upon a woman in the Arab culture. Not whether she becomes a doctor, nobel prize winner or anything like that, but when she becomes a mother.

so Im guessing that the attachment to your mom would always feel more concrete than the attachment to a wife as there could always be other wives in the picture potentially.

That's... a really good guess. Huh.

Your wife is your queen, your right hand, the mother of your children. That's what oath you took at the alter.

In Arab (or rather more specifically Arab Muslim) society you actually marry the father of the bride, not so much the woman herself. You and the dad basically stand in front of the Imam (or let's just use your terminology, priest) and you consent to marrying her and promise to take care of her yada yada yada. Then the priest declares you married, you may now kiss the father, etc.

So... take that how you will.

Also the color palette for the show is absolutely lovely. Plus it's shot like a soap opera but also not? Very unique camera work, and just really enjoyable. I have to say I used to mock CW but between this and iZombie (and the fact that I actually don't consider their shows to be bad, just not for my demographic) I'm starting to wonder whether or not they should be considered one of the better networks on tv.

I definitely think more people should watch this show.

Jane is hilarious and just something about her is really alluring. Her mother is sexy and funny. While her grandmother believes in stupid religion shit and is annoying about it, that's part of the character and the show makes it fun so no complaints there (for the most part)

I like Michael, I like Rafael, I like the supporting cast, and I really like Petra. Like good god do I like her. Even when she does nasty shit, I don't even care I just root for her so much.

Heard about it for a long time, decided to see it on my friend's Netflix since it was on his rec list from Netflix.

From the very beginning I could see that it was incredibly funny, and very tongue-in-cheek about its spanish soap opera influences/homages (which are apparently called telenovelas)

ALso jesus fuck petra is... holy fuck she's too hot what even is this?

Like, I just don't understand how the characters don't acknowledge it, even with the fact that everyone on the show is hot. But she is hot like Mockingbird from Agents of Shield is hot, the kind of hot blonde that makes you go "Oh my god" every time she appears on screen.

While in Arab media and daily life, it's always about putting your mother first, even in front of your wife, no matter what.

A lot of shows and movies in America have that conflict of the woman's boyfriend/husband being overly attached to his mother, and at the end of the episode/movie it's about the guy finally "growing up" and giving his mother a piece of his mind to not disrespect his wife, standing up for his wife and winning back her heart, that sort of thing. Like a rite of passage. Completely the opposite when it comes to the Arab world.

It's just interesting being raised in both cultures and seeing the disparity between the two. In the age old question of who would you choose to save on a sinking boat, your wife or your mother, all Arab men always say mother without hesitation. Can you guess why?

you cant really have any sort of lasting happiness if your material needs arent met

You care about material needs? Honestly just having human companionship is enough, but I guess it's easy to say that if you have always had the former but never had the latter.

I've found that for these sony trilogy games the second one has always been the best. Crash 2, Ratchet and Clank 2, Sly Cooper 2, etc.

They've all been the better version, having improved everything from the first, without stagnating and getting more gimmicky like they always do in the third game, adding stupid shit like multiplayer (ugh) or 3d (super ugh) or an abundance of annoying minigames.

The S9+ has 6 gb ram apparently. If I get it that would mean my phone has more ram than my fricking computer, which I find kinda funny, funny enough to get the phone on that basis alone (gonna be honest price isn't a factor for me so much, especially since I'll probably never have the things I want out of a phone)

Honestly? I don't know anything when it comes to smartphones besides the fact that I don't want an apple product. Otherwise it's anyone's guess what I'll like in a smartphone (some buttons would be nice, I really hate an all touchscreen phone)

id get the S9 for the dual speakers

I hope neither speaker is on the back of the phone because that was a terrible idea for the S5.

I wonder if I would like dual speakers... by the way have all these phones become edge-ified? Did Samsung stick with that design?

I mean I can afford both, but I usually buy the cheaper option when it comes to smartphones because I actually don't really do mobile technology. All those extra doodads they have, when all I care about is a phone with good speakers for when I'm browsing youtube, and good ergonomic feel in your hand for when you're both browsing the internet and watching videos on it.

Apps are helpful when the need arises but I usually just use google maps and the occasional app here and there for miscellaneous stuff.

Inspect element has been very helpful in changing layout without me knowing any computer speak, but the problem is you can't save the changes made to the website, it's just that one page and a simple refresh makes you lose your changes.

How to save changes done with inspect element on websites?

Saw the first few episodes of the office. Holy shit how does anyone like this show?

I haven't seen much of the US Office, but I have to imagine it's one of those shows where maybe it starts off a little stale but finds its footing in later seasons

Parks and Rec being a prime example; season 1 is painful and most of season 2 is a chore, but once Rob Lowe and Adam Scott show up, it takes off exponentially

Season 1 was essentially the office which is why it was so painful (but thankfully only 6 episodes so not even much of a season unless you're british) and simultaneously weird that people can like the office but hate parks and rec first season.

The very first episode of season 2 parks and rec saw a completely different shift in tone for the better. And yest when ben schwartz and rob lowe appeared, hot damn did the show blossom even further.

Saw the first few episodes of the office. Holy shit how does anyone like this show? Absolutely hard to believe any one of the staff were people that went on to be involved with amazing shows like Parks and Rec, Brooklyn Nine Nine, the the recent Trial and Error.

What I'm getting at is, 9 times out of 10, the HR staff would probably be smokers themselves so... yeah I'm screwed.

If I can one day get a visa, citizenship or hell even refugee status (willing to swallow my pride for that last one) to a country that hates smoking, that would be awesome.

The mideast is a repressed hypocritical place where smoking is perfectly fine because lord knows they've already banned the more traditional vices like alcohol, prostitution and drugs which I'm completely fine with because it's not a smoke I have to inhale (unless the drugs are a joint being smoked in which case that's wrong, only injected/snorted/eaten is fine since I don't give a shit what happens to your body, it's your right. Up until it infringes on my rights, which smoking definitely does)

The building is "supposed" to be a smoke free zone but naturally he don't give no shits and just smokes in the room, which I hate. Completely pisses me off when he talks about wanting to get healthy while smoking a cig, almost like he's making fun and doesn't mean it.

I just wish the ban on smoking indoors was actually enforced.

Mental health illnesses, from depression to aspergers, really don't have a universally distinguishing feature like most diseases, like cancer or liver disease, I dunno. We live in an age where there are still doctors that don't really acknowledge the existence of these, and it makes it even more difficult to study and research.
