I'm definitely having a lot of trouble figuring out Standard right now. Don't know what I'm playing this weekend for the qualifier either. Feels like no matter what you're doing you have to make sacrifices against a particular popular deck and just hope you don't get matched against it.

There's nothing especially bad about it, but there's also not much that's actively good about it. Though I do like Sheik, and also seeing (OoT spoilers I guess??) the fallout of the Door of Time stuff through the second half of the game is sometimes cool.

I'm a fan of Rindo, though I generally agree. Fret and Nagi are fine but I don't think I like them as much as I did some of the other major characters from the original like Shiki or Joshua. Rindo also doesn't seem to be as good as Neku, though that has more to do than anything else with Neku being one of my favorite characters.

I'm only at near the end of week 1 right now, but at the same time I feel like the original only needed about that amount of time to endear me to the characters.

This game does have a higher density of Minamimoto though which can only be a good thing.

I played the Mask games without having played or watched the original first and thought it was fine without having any prior knowledge.

The pacing in Mask of Deception isn't great, yeah. The main appeal is mostly Mask of Truth, though Deception does get better at about the halfway point or something. You've probably still got a fair bit to go before that point though unless you're a much faster reader than I am, which is possible.

Welp, lost pretty quickly in day 2, but I don't think there was a whole lot I could have done other than perhaps deck selection, but I think my deck was reasonable also. I just didn't see any of the key cards when it mattered. In particular I was against all creature decks and don't think I saw a board wipe all event despite running 3 of them (2 main 1 side) plus card draw to find them.

I did make one pretty big misplay in terms of how dumb it was, but given how the game went after that I'm pretty sure it didn't end up mattering. (I attacked with a Thieves-Guild Enforcer to trade with a Selfless Savior when I really shouldn't have been happy with that trade, but my opponent drew pretty aggressively and I'd have been forced to make the same trade defensively in 2-3 turns anyways, and given that I was not even close to winning I don't see that as likely to have changed the outcome)

I once ran into someone in Ranked Historic in Mythic who was playing Blue/White Ephemerate Wizards and completely bodied my meta deck. It had just a mish-mash of good tempo cards and then got value off of Ephemerate + Naban, Dean of Iteration and a bunch of wizards with good ETB effects. (Deputy of Detention, Sea Gate Oracle, etc) Definitely one of the most memorable sets I've had.

The card is very fun.

I actually meant that in the opposite way than I think you thought haha, but yes sometimes they curve out into Winota and you just get blown off the board. It's a silly card like that also.

Where I'm coming from though is that the only threatening thing in the Winota deck is Winota--a 4 mana 4/4 that needs to survive until combat--which means you just win if you play Heartless Act. Or Power Word Kill. Or Redcap Melee, or whatever. The deck is too fragile.

There were a few points that were frustrating because even if knew you what task you needed to do, actually executing that required seemingly arbitrary motion in order to register, but I didn't ever feel like I was searching for information and not finding it.

So people saying Trails in the Sky SC, do you like chapters 7 and 8, or are you just only considering the final chapter?

Either way I don't agree, but at least the final chapter is almost the highlight of the game whereas chapter 7/8 was pretty cleanly the worst part for me.

7 is one of my least favorite chapters of TTYD. I do quite like the final chapter but Glitz Pit is still definitely the highlight for me.

Was already considering picking up the game again for some more fiending of leaderboards so maybe this'll be the push I need.

Also 3 new areas is a lot, especially if they've also got day/night variants or whatever. Pretty exciting. They also look cool which is nice. I really missed there not being a real river type area in the base content so this is exactly what I was looking for. (To be clear, there are some really cool levels in the base content that far outshine anything the original did, but this particular thing is something I kept waiting for and never saw)

Also that Swalot is the best thing ever.

Persona 3 is easily the best example I have. Possibly the best segment of any video game ever.

Utawarerumono another good choice, though I only played the 2 Mask games. Not sure what if anything else I have.

FFIX and FFX are interesting because I think they specifically have really good ending sequences, but I don't think of their final acts overall as the highlight of the game.

Today in what might be the most unfortunate play I've seen, I had an opponent attempt to use Valki, God of Lies to copy my Polukranos, Unchained. He scooped immediately after which is probably fair.

(Because Polukranos is worded to get counters as it enters and the Valki copy doesn't enter the battlefield, it just turns itself into a 0/0 and dies immediately)
