I know I made the PS4 topic yesterday but I'm looking for other options as well. With the PS4 I'll have to buy Overwatch again and I believe my PSN Subscription ends this November. I have other games to play but I used to play Overwatch religiously.

On PC I have my huge library to play with and I already have Overwatch for it.

My budget is pretty small. I can probably spend no more than $550.

Any suggestions? I don't care if I play OW at low settings.

Note: I am not going to build my own PC. So don't even suggest it. I don't want to, don't have time for it, or the patience for it.

I've been watching Cinemassacre's Mike play Princess Rescue, which is basically what Super Mario Bros. 1 would look like on the Atari 2600. It's very impressive.

It made me want to create my own old school game.

I don't have any knowledge on programming and I'm glancing at tutorials right now. But it is something I would like to do as a fun little project.

Any tips on getting started? For fun I'm thinking about making a short game for an old console. I want to see what can possibly be squeezed out of old systems.

And any examples of games like this?

Link to the Cinemassacre Princess Rescue lets play:

Ah.

I actually did look a bit more into the Ryzen 5 2400G, but it isn't for me. That and I'm not building a PC so upgrading is out of the question. When I buy a PC it'll be a pre-built and I already know what I want to get.

Oh and one of the videos I watched of a budget PC was running Overwatch at the very lowest graphical settings and it looked bad and had screen tearing. I don't always care about graphics but since I'm going to buy a PC later this year, I can just wait for a powerful PC.

like 8GB for ram was the rule of thumb for years for gaming rigs. and even that's starting to become slightly not enough for the latest games. if you weren't on a budget it would make more sense to go with 16GB, especially since it's, y'know, a PC you'll probably be doing non-gaming things with. and you're gonna try to tell me 4GB is fine? and that a stock cooler is fine for any kind of load? lmao foh.

Yeah, 4gb isn't enough. The laptop I'm using right now has 4gb and it's slow. And @Kyuubi4269 is expecting me to use the harddrive from the laptop I'm using right now.

No it isn't. It's currently at $426.60 when I added a Windows 10 license, cheap keyboard and mouse. I still have to add a wireless network adapter and more ram.

And I have to build it myself. I've never put together a PC and I don't want to. I don't have the time nor the patience for that.

That's why the PS4 is my best option right now until I am able to afford a PC I want.

I never said I bought it for the sole purpose of running Windows 10. I bought an iMac because back then I was using Mac OSX and didn't like Windows. Steam came to Mac at the right time so that's how I got into Steam. Gaming on it was just something extra. And now that I love PC gaming, I'm going to buy a gaming PC when I can afford a kick ass one.

I've been currently using an old laptop for the past few months but it can only run older games on it. I've been in the mood for MGSV and Overwatch but this laptop can't run them.

Kyuubi4269 posted...
I gave you 4GB which is enough, and you don't need a GPU as it's a solid APU.

With this you can play PS4 games, then when GPUs go back to normal pricing you can cash in, and if you feel you need more RAM you can stick in more sticks. This is far more price-efficient than buying a PS4 AND a gaming PC in one year.

I'd still need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and W10 key. It all adds up. I don't want to end up with 2 PCs later this year and I want a far better performance than your suggested build.

Even when I buy a gaming PC this fall, I'll still have the PS4 for exclusive games. And I have quite a few PS4 games I don't have on PC at the moment (like the Witcher 3 for example).

pls stop spreading misinformation like this. you can build a passable gaming pc for 500 but you ain't running anything at full. it makes a lot more sense to buy a ps4 if you've already got the games

Nobody said anything about running games on full settings. A $500 PC can definitely compete with the performance of a PS4, which is a more relevant benchmark in this case.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

please build me a PC that would be more price-effective than a ps4 with similar gaming capabilities. there's a ps4 PRO on american amazon for $400 and it includes star wars battlefront ii. if you can go lower than that i will concede.

But with the hardware of a moderately priced laptop...you could put a reasonably decent gaming PC together for $500+ these days so if you're buying your PS4 brand new, you're not doing yourself any major favours because there's no room for upgrades when you've got more $ to spend.

No. The PS4 would still be more affordable.

I'd want to play my PC games at max or near max at 60 fps (or higher). I cannot find a laptop for $500 that will play games at those settings.

So I'd rather buy a PS4 and play the games I already have on it, and buy a PC later this year when I have more money to buy something that will last me a good while and has the specs that I want.

Edit: If I could find a laptop that at that price that can run the games at the settings I want, I'd buy it.

You're going to want a bigger HDD in your PS4 unless you're willing to delete and install things regularly so there's extra cost already, while depending on what's 'broken' with your PC, you can probably repurpose some parts and get it back up to speed for only a few hundred, give or take so what you're really saying is that you'd rather use console and your PC problems are a pretext?

I'm willing to delete and install things as I go. I'll only have a few things installed that I'll keep playing all the time.

I already have a good PS4 library since I've been buying a lot of games on sale. So far I have a few PS Plus games, Alien Isolation, The Last of Us, The Witcher 3, RE5, and some other games too.

And I can't wait to play Overwatch again. I haven't played it in months and with the new character reveal today, I just can't take it any more! I must play Overwatch again! And I'll be doing it on PS4.

Double Dragon Neon

...Why do so many games I like have "Dragon" in the title?

Yeah, DS3s are expensive right now. Even the used ones. A third party one is really cheap but the quality won't be as good. Not sure if I should spend around $40 on a used one or buy a cheap one. I'm leaning towards a third party controller.

And thanks for the suggestions. I think I have both Dragon's Crown and Dragon's Dogma. I probably got them from PS Plus. I have not played Dragon's Dogma but I have played Dragon's Crown a bit (it's the beat 'em up right?).
