Deepnest being dark af is also meant to incentivize you to go elsewhere, but you grinded cash for the lantern. There's nothing wrong with what you did, it's just not the typical route most first-time players will take. The fact that you can and did go an entirely different route is a big appeal of the game for a lot of people. It might be better that you did get into Deepnest that way.
