I heard that the fishing gear DLC is good enough to get them at the start. I don't know if it's part of the season pass or if you have to pay the extra $0.49 for it.

I did searches on the FFXV board for each of the weapon upgrade materials to see which seemed best to go after, and I ended up buying a Sky Gemstone (sounded like it's normally obtainable way later than the weapon it upgrades), a Magnetron (there's a freebie late in the game, but it's missable, and the other way of getting it is as a rare drop), that Coeurl Whisker (MI said they're annoying to kill), and a Cactaur Needle (super cheap and apparently somewhat annoying to get).

Also two each of the Prismatic Ore/Shard/Dust because the description says they're extremely rare and they were really cheap anyway (afterwards I saw these are only used for painting the Regalia so whatever).

It's sad to see Squeenix still doesn't know how to make chocobo racing fun. This second course in the carnival is just the stupidest thing. At least I got the trophy for the first course after like fifty tries.

Also is it feasible at all for me to try getting the exclusive fishing stuff as a level 1 fisher with just the very beginning equipment? I've tried it a bit, but the highest tag I've found is a G, and that put up a decent fight. I do know about the food from the cafe.

Anyway, which of the buyable rewards are the most worth it for someone that hasn't actually started the game yet? (beyond saving just after towing the car to Cindy) I don't know that I'll have the patience to grind medallions for too long, but if there's something super useful that's a real pain to get normally, I can tough it out.

I didn't realize Roserade was so disliked. Bummer. I thought Lurantis was generally well-received too. Then again something had to go out and the only other things I thought were likely were Charmeleon and Sawsbuck (plus Malamar of course). I guess it could just be a case of less liked rather than disliked.
