I... what?

Who wants a dog?

I mean... you got a dog bred for herding across vast tracks of land and are keeping it in what looks to be a moderately small apartment. Your dog is a great and intelligent breed, but honestly this looks like you just didn't do your research. Not every dog will do well in every type of environment.

It's a house with a fenced in yard. But yeah not a mansion by any means.

I'm so fucking livid.

Na that's not fair to her at all, imo.

My uncle had outside dogs, exclusively for hunting. They looked so sad all the time, flies all over them, dirty water, etc. no thanks

Walk your dog way more. She has all this built up energy and she doesn't know where to focus it. When I first got my pup if I didnt walk her 3 times a day she'd destroy my couch cushions

Yeah I'd like to walk them more. Trying to get my GF on board with it. Puppy makes it frustrating because she just tries to jump on me literally the entire time, instead of walking next to the other dog.

If I hold both leashes, she doesn't jump as much, but I can't pick up their poop or give them water. So I can't really take them alone.

Time to trade it for a good dog.

Na I won't replace her. If we have to get rid of her, that will be that. But I won't get rid of a puppy just to get a different puppy.

If it does come to that, please find someone yourself that you trust to take her and dont just drop her at a shelter. But I believe in ya TC, just be patient and loving, your pet will love you, and eventually learn what behaviors are rewarded. Positive reinforcement always trumps punishment.

Absolutely. Really hoping it doesn't come to getting rid of her. But if it ever does, I refuse to just drop her at a shelter or on the side of the road. I will find her a good family, if it comes to that.

Good on you for continuing to try.

Have you kept a camera around to see what your dog does? Maybe has separation anxiety?

Separation anxiety is definitely the cause. No doubt in my mind.

We've considered cameras. One that you can "talk" to would be nice, if I can catch her in the act doing something. Got any you recommend?

Yep! This helped with my 8 months old. She's always been very high energy, seems like she's constantly has the zoomies.

But when we put her in the crate, either from letting her be out for a long time or if she gets to over excited, we've always covered the crate and she relaxes.

Yeah cage with a cover is my go to training. People heavily underrate what crating does for a dog.

Yeah, I was totally on board with it. They need a "den". She just fucking HATES being in there, but as someone else said, we didn't crate train well enough.

This would be nice, but some obedience classes are over $1,000. Just not in the budget right now, especially after 2k in damages, and about to have a new floor installed because of her.

Just saying a 1k class would have been cheaper than the repairs you're forced to do.

Not every dog needs the class, but hindsight is 20/20.

Not every dog needs it, but every dog will benefit. Not trying to pile on man, just my viewpoint.
Obedience training is always my #1priority with dogs simply because it's impossible to tell if they'll need it, but it's always a good thing to do.

I'll look around and see if I can find any viable options

Are you not covering your cage? It helps them a lot if you train them to have a cover over it

We aren't really caging her anymore. She does more damage inside than she does when she free roams.

You'd benefit a lot from putting her in a puppy obedience class, and a board and train class after.

How much exercise does she get? This sounds more behavioral than routine.

We play a lot of fetch in the backyard. About hour total each day, of her sprinting from one end of the yard to the other. She also has another dog to play with

Australian Cattle Dogs are one of the most high energy breeds out there.

Usually 3 hours. Long days are more like 7, which I expect accidents.

Most of you know, or are at least familiar, with Satan. I mean Oreo Pupper. But she really is Satan tho...

Here's a pic.
9jyYunF

The crate was originally in the corner to the left of the door. She kicks the tray out of the bottom, and then is able to somehow move across the floor. Idk if she's flipping it or scooting it. She eats the floor and the couch this way.

SO, with her causing this damage while crated, we tried letting her free roam while we're gone.

Mixed results, but I'm worried that she's "learning" she can now potty in the house now
