I just don't think it was. It was tripping over itself trying to spin too many plates. They tried to make Credence's identity into some big mystery, but then they ruined it with fakeouts and stuff. If you're going to do a fake out, it has to last longer than 30 seconds.

I was just starting to consider the implications of him being from the LeStrange family when Leta smashed the whole scene with a hammer made of baby-stealing monolog. Not that the previous guy's monolog was any more interesting. A bunch of convoluted melodrama about characters I never met and didn't care about.

The story just didn't feel planned. It feels like they just fired a shotgun at a Harry Potter word cloud and tried to piece together a story made of whatever words got hit.

That's the fault of the 3rd movie for dropping that plotline. In Crimes, we're left in a situation where the only people who know about the baby swap are Newt and gang. This could have been set up easily for the 3rd where Grindy thinks he knows everything and has the advantage but is acting on false premises. Instead we are just immediately told to accept Clarence's true ancestry even though that doesn't make much sense. The 2nd was a mess and introduced several characters without much backstory or development, but it managed to weave the various plot lines together in a way that everyone ended up at Grindy's rally at the end, and that's pretty fun. Especially on rewatch.

It started out OK. I liked the guy who played L and Ryuuk was good. But the 3rd act turned into straight up action nonsense that felt completely separated from the first 2/3.

Nah. The second one was fine. I enjoyed the convoluted plot and it set up several mysteries that were worth exploring.

The 3rd one was shit and basically ignored all the setup from the first 2 and also didn't make any sense on it's own.
