See, if I were you and were dead set on countering him, I would have just gone with that angle in the first place. Whether it applies on a large scale or not I couldn't say, but it's a logical possibility. Your initial point about wages for new employees isn't illogical, but it's just pretty easy to show why it doesn't matter all that much.

I don't really get caught up on the hyperbole of commentary because everyone does that shit all the time and I'm not gonna change that. In other words, I'm not going to say Reg's take is a problem, but I'm certainly not going to claim it as a fact either.

Corrik, a few thoughts before I suspect I drop my part in this abomination of a discussion I've willingly created. (To everyone else, I promise to wait at least a month before doing this shit again.)

- I don't personally care about Regaro's opinion on what he posted. I don't personally care about your initial response of "Misleading". I care enough about your evaluation and the significance you think it holds to go down the rabbit hole I knew it would lead.

- I'll spell this one out for you since you missed it repeatedly. People said you can't read because you kept saying that Regaro was saying that no one benefited from Trump, when he specifically said that "normal" people weren't benefiting from him. Obviously even in the worst economies there is someone who has benefited.

- I never said that your point has absolute zero impact. I said it was insignificant. There is a difference. Although in the case of median instead of mean in simplified examples it would tend to be zero impact (as JeffRaze just showed).

This barely even counts as statistics you're failing to comprehend this time. Means and medians are basic concepts taught in middle school at the latest. This is just one step further to comprehend why a small addition to the size an average has a negligible effect in most situations.

Seriously, I can show you math more representative of the actual situation if you want without typing out thousands of numbers, but I won't do it unless you confirm you actually want to see it.

Your "point" involves changes in unemployment literally greater than peak unemployment rates in the Great Depression. So don't try making it if you don't understand how to do it.

Your examples go from a sample size of 11 to 15. That'd be bare minimum a 26.7% decrease in unemployment, and that assumes the sample size of 15 represents 100% employment which never happens, so realistically that's more a minimum unemployment decrease in the neighborhood of 30%.

Corrik, we're talking about a 0.5% change in unemployent rate over the course of a year. The effect that has on mean and especially median wages is insignificant.

You're also presenting it that literally 100% of those jobs are in the bottom of the income range. You don't need very many outliers on the plus side to offset a mean change.
