I know its sort of weird, but its definitely true that some foods and snacks are associated with socioeconomic status. Like those Takis and Funyuns in particular are very prevalent in lower class neighborhoods and schools and I would be surprised to see them in other settings to be honest. But thats just my own experience living in the USA.

Did you feel like your teachers were generally adept at keeping you accountable for doing your schoolwork? For example, did your teachers use important consequences to motivate you to do the work?

I am interested mainly in middle and high school experiences, because in college, many students already have an intrinsic motivation to do their work.

Also, if you dont mind, say if your schooling was outside of the United States, because I wonder about how the education culture might be different.

Well, no. They aren't. The symbols and spoken words we use to identify amounts are inventions, but numbers are not an invention in and of themselves.
Time is not an invention, even though the concept of time didn't exist until humans made it up. Still doesn't mean we invented time. Only the method we use with which to measure it.

OK, I can give one example of how Common Core is affecting a topic you might have learned from high school.

Do you remember using something called the FOIL method to multiply (x + 4)*(x + 9), for example? Well I think that "FOIL" has heavily fallen out of favor. The reason why Common Core practice would encourage textbook publishers and teachers to drop it is because it's liable to become a one-trick pony that wouldn't apply to similar problems like (x - 2 + sqrt(2))*(x - 2 - sqrt(2)). Instead, teachers are trying to convey that this kind of multiplication requires using the Distributive Property.

Also, I remember one time I unlocked my car, but didn't open the doors because I was messing around around with things in the trunk and I heard the doors lock again after about 3 min...
