It's very difficult to work pecs at my gym because almost every guy there under 50 seems to be obsessed with having perfect pecs so all the relevant equipment is always being used and as soon as it frees up you basically have to drop whatever you're doing and haul ass there, or it'll be gone again. Dunno if anyone else has a similar experience. Did manage to get enough in today though, and I could feel it afterwards (and still can).

benches, dumbbells, cables, or machines?

Today was a semi nice lift. Always hard to tell on arm day since its just not ever going to be something that pushes me to my limit

i do feel my Skullcrusher form is the best its ever been, which is something Ive always struggled with. Idk if struggle is the right word, but is always been lurking in the back of my mind that something was off, as opposed to now I feel confident that its locked in and moving right

I started a new deadlift cycle which is a joy

my amrap set was at 275 and I did 16, and I certainly had at least a few more in the tank strength wise but it took so much out of me heart and cns wise that the whole rest of the workout was fucked. Im not sure I can do stuff like that anymore at my age lol

Its been a decent lift the past few days. My forearm has been strained but nothing horribly, but I feel like its knocked a rep off each lift. My protein intake has also been shit lately. But other than that, my reps feel good and strong, some of the strongest theyve ever felt, but its just dying quickly on those last ones from the arm. Itll be okay

Today was one of those lovely lifts where everything felt incredibly stable, energetic, and strong. Which was much needed because there have been a lot of days lately where the lifts have been unstable, sluggish, and weak.

pullups 45x3x10
barbell rows 185x3x12
db curls 40x3x10
lateral raises 35x3x10
lat pull-down 250x1 225x3 200x6 175x8
cable curl 50x2x20
seated cable row 65x2x20
cable rear delt fly 10x2x25
hammer curl 40x15 35x15 30x15

When I start my bulk here in a couple weeks I'm going to be cutting down on my cardio, however, I think I'm gonna try to start training to dunk a basketball. I'm 5'8 for the record.

So that'll be my goal, and I'm gonna keep trying till I do it. So no timeline, it'll just happen when it happens.

thats an ambitious goal which means Im all for it. Go get that shit man!!

I mean Ive been front squatting for the past year so its not like Ive been wasting away. I was more just worried about the muscle memory and weight differences, like there have been times where Ive missed a month of lifting or so for various reasons and then it was hard to hit even 225 coming back

Also was very proud of a youngin who I have been lifting with lately. Ive been encouraging him to push himself on the weight more as he seems to psych himself out a lot on what he can actually do. His goal today was to hit a deadlift PR of 3 reps at 315, and I just fucking yelled at him till he hit it for 5. Kid was super happy. Felt like a proud father

repping 100 on the pull-ups which is a nice feeling considering I have put on a few pounds lately, we will just call it the after credits bulk scene. I was supposed to stop in January but a nice 4 or so pounds crept up on me in the past week lol

one thing that Ive always struggled with is forearm mass. Dont get me wrong, they are strong and as tight as dick skin. But they just struggled to grow mass wise over the years despite hammer curls 3x a week, farmer carries, etc. I recently, as in like two weeks ago, started doing the goofy little cable wrist push downs that sam sulek does, and good lord almighty they have probably grown by literally 10-20% in that short ass timeframe. Highly recommended

Weighed myself yesterday and the results are in! I lost one pound! So currently at an even 170.

Just goes to show that water weight is very, very sneaky, because I look a lot different. First time in a long time that the lining of my abs(so the line that differentiates the abs and obliques, w.e that's called) is clearly visible from the front and side. However, I'm so close to being at my goal of being absolutely shredded everywhere else that I'm just gonna keep pushing on my cut for an extra couple to three weeks.

The additional cardio has helped my cardio vascular health too. Currently have a resting BPM of 40. I've never had it that low.

And to top it off, that couple days to help with fatigue definitely helped. Since I missed a few days because of being snowed in I hit my legs and bench yesterday. Still hitting 300 on squat, and hit 240 on bench so my strength hasn't been sapped all that much either. The anxiousness of wanting to bulk up is getting much harder now though.

congrats man, sounds like a lot of effort and planning is paying off ! :)

I've been experimenting with those Zercher squats at the end of my leg day the last few weeks. Just a few very light, 10 rep sets. It's a really different feeling exercise keeping the bar in the crooks of your elbows. Plus, as someone who otherwise does low bar back squats, it's a much more upright position overall.

I love them. They translate so much to both other lifts and real world functional strength. EVERYTHING became incredibly light to hold and carry once I started doing them. Sadly the hernia situation makes them undoable at the moment :( I had gotten my weight pretty good on them too

I hate when that happens, total buzzkill. I hope the back is okay

my day was kind of similar. I dont want to say I was excited for the lift lol, but its been a lot of good workouts lately and Ive been riding that high. But last leg day I had the bar dig in a little too much on the hip thrusts that was causing some discomfort, and then today when I tried to HT it was far too painful and I realized its gonna be a few lifts for that to heal. Front squats I was a rep short on everything, had to cut the HTs out, and when it came time for the zerchers I was so disappointed that I just skipped it. Gonna take two rest days and get in a good headspace again

follow up: I think I have a hernia lol

one major positive tho is I did lat push downs with the rope instead of the bar for the first time today, and hoooooooly f the difference is insane. Never going back

Looking good!

I'm starting to tell that I am getting shredded. My biceps and triceps are getting very distinct lines, especially during a pump. Still not going to look in a mirror with my shirt off till the end of the month, but I think I'll be very satisfied with the results. Getting the squigly veins on my biceps too, that's fun. The actual best part is that my strength is still maintaining, majority of it anyway, I mean my bench has dropped from 285 to 245, squat from 335 to 300, deadlifts from 315 to 295(1reps).

thats what always terrifies me about a cut. I like my numbers! Even going down a little bit is hard for my brain to accept, even if the results are great

physique update, at least upper body anyway. After a few years of seemingly nonstop injuries/illness, Ive been very glad to put together a long run of consistency in the gym that has paid off both strength and aesthetics wise. On the flip side, being in my thirties also makes me feel like Im hanging on for dear life and its also harder to get your body to absolutely pop like it was in your 20s. Still very grateful and happy of course :)

Don't tempt me!

Arms starting to lose strength. Still hitting 160 on the over head press, but it's definitely getting harder. Also since I'm cutting, and sometimes I hate how my body looks in the mirror, I avoid looking in the mirror lol. I know progress, especially in the lifting world, either for strength, or trying to lose weight is a long journey so I know progress isn't going to happen over night. Weighing myself at the end of the month, and then I'll also look in the mirror at that time too.

I think it helps, keeps me from comparing myself constantly and makes me focus on just staying consistent. Been a lot better about my diet too. Lots of eggs, yogurt, beans. And I'll get something a bit messier like a burger or a sandwich(Philly cheesesteaks are my weakness), once or twice a week. Super excited to start on my bulk though, so hopefully the work being put in this month will pay off!

im sure you are already aware, but it if you are working out with the intensity and consistency that you have shown in these topics, 100% of the population looks at you and sees someone in great shape with a desirable physique, regardless of if you are on a cut, a bulk or maintaining. I know youve got goals for yourself and those are important, but while you feel stressed at the mirror or the scale, just know that that self imposed disappointment should always be chased with the envy of basically everyone you walk by

Good morning friends

workouts have been good lately. My body weight is right at 180 and been doing decent with avoiding injuries over the past few months. I retooled my leg day to where front squats are the primary lift, hitting the mid 200s. Does so much better in my back and knees. I also made hip thrusts the 1B lift, got 525 for 4 yesterday. I could power bottom a triceratops at this point. I also started doing zercher squats just as a way to increase/maintain my carrying strength, as thats one thing Ive noticed has gotten harder with age. Keeping it low weight low reps at the moment, like sets of 5 in the 115-155 range.

back is probably the most jacked its ever been which my girlfriend loves, but its just been from years of consistent progress. Havent done anything new or exciting with it

im seated overhead pressing 135 for 13 reps, standing for 11. Bench is still trash so we wont talk about that one

lastly Ive been doing a lot of boxing/bag work at the end of my lifts which has helped immensely. Even being super strong and muscular, you find out real quickly that you arent shit when you first try punching. But a few months of consistent training and those sorry ass butterfly kisses have now turned into absolute thunder. Great cardio too

Tough push day today. A lot of lifts were one to two reps short of what I was hoping for

bench 170x16 (wanted 17) 180x8 190x5 200x3
ohp 155x4 (wanted 5) 155x2 (wanted 3) 135x6 (didnt have an exact number programmed but definitely wanted more than that lol)
incline 135x16 145x7 155x7 165x3 (triceps were toast by this point lol)
weighted dips 90x1 75x3 60x5
my stupid ass lateral raise variation I do on push days now 20x3x14
overhead rope/cable Tricep extension 60x8 65x6 42x11
cable lateral raises 15x7 15x5
single arm rope/cable Tricep pulldowns 20x14 20x12 20x10

dips I definitely have reached my point to cycle back, not sure how I will program them this time but its time to drop the weight for sure
