TopicCredit card owners: any debt?
grimhilde00
03/22/23 6:36:24 AM

I had $10k in debt that I just paid off

most of my assets are in stock, and a lot of from an IPO that I couldn't sell until after the stock market crashed last year bringing it down to 30% the original price (which I paid taxes on..)

moving cost between $30k-40k all in all (flights, Airbnb for two months finding a flat, shipping stuff over, shipping cat over, furnishing an apartment from scratch, 11k cash upfront for 6 months rent and deposit since no UK credit or guarantor)

so yeah put a decent amount on my card and I wanted to rebuild my cash savings since I'm paranoid about having that available. So while maybe it would have been wiser to pay off more (I mean I did some just could have done more) cause interest but mentally I feel better with a good chunk of cash. ah well

last week, or week before, my IPO stock got back to the original IPO price so I sold some of that to reinvest and pay off the credit debt

it had been rising a lot and the quarterly reports were good so I expected that to go up soon. otherwise I'd start just paying off cash after hitting the amount of cash savings I wanted

the amount of interest I've paid the past couple months is much less than what the stock price difference would have been if I sold earlier so eh think it worked out

back to no debt now

had a friend live in Vietnam and also really liked it there but idk what the retirement visa is like

when I left the country I chose somewhere I'd fit in socially more, most Americans I know who left for Eastern Asia stick to groups of friends that are Western still, so there's that

but if you're retiring there and don't care, idk try to be a good resident at least

also as far as divorce rates go, it's made worse by "repeat offenders" (and people with abusive histories are often drawn to that psychologically so that can make it complicated, though not sure how much of a percentage that really matters with rates)

women who wait for marriage after a college education and age 25 have lower divorce rates

there are many factors

I mean Im hoping you buy pads. Thats maintenance. Unless youve gone full blown hippie flower child which isnt exactly a stretch for you.

you don't need pads. tampons, diva cups, and absorbent menstruation underwear are all a thing. hell I'm very light with birth control so I don't really need anything other than a tampon a day if I'm leaving the house only. that's not to say that's the norm at all but everyone is different.

not sure the relevance of this concern here anyway.

but your saying "sure hope you buy pads!" really shows your ignorance on the matter. even when I was heavy, more frequent tampons were way better than pads. Pads were only used when I was a teenager unfamiliar with tampons. Again, everyone is different, but implying everyone needs pads is just ignorant.

There's some complications where I can't really set up a Roth IRA, or make use of tax advantaged UK savings (ISA). Need to talk with some accountant to do more. Otherwise I just have the 401k, pension, and taxable investments (which I think also have some complications with living abroad).
