I've been eating a lot of fish lately
hopefully I won't get lead/Mercury poisoning lol
you can look up mercury poisoning levels of different fish

higher up the food chain is worse. Tuna, bad. Sardines, not. Though I've seen a few posts in /r/canned sardines that uric acid can be another problem (gout) if you eat a shit ton and other factors lol..

I generally don't dislike things too. like I've had grasshoppers, chicken feet, pigs feet, blood sausage / black pudding, haggis, tripe, very stinky cheese, natto, I like it all.

but recently, even though I love fish, I had fish pie. It's fish in like a cream based sauce with mashed potatoes on top. Been meaning to try it for awhile. There's a posh ready meal brand called Charlie Bigham's and I like a lot of their stuff, and UK Reddit had a lot of people commenting that their fish pie was great. So gave it a shot.

Just.. don't like it. Don't think I like fish with mashed potatoes. Might be the texture? cause I like fish and potatoes and a cream sauce! idk didn't like it lol

I should be fine. I've had giant clam sushi with no problem. There's also only two things I can say I've had that I hated and a third that I dislike.
ah cool go for it then!

what are the three things you've disliked/hated?

Don't think I've ever had mackerel. I really want to try mackerel sushi though.

sushi isn't my favourite way to have mackerel, but I still like it and order it when I go out. it's pretty fishy though. I do like it, but if you haven't had it before it might be too much. If you don't like it, give smoked try.

here's a few different recipes besides just on toast

https://yousaypotatoes.com/smoked-mackerel-salad/

https://www.womanandhome.com/recipes/mackerel-rocket-and-potato-salad/

https://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/smoked-mackerel-nicoise-salad/

https://somebodyfeedseb.com/smoked-mackerel-kedgeree/

or besides sushi or smoked, mackerel teriyaki is pretty good too

also I'd say after fish, pork is my favourite

pork shoulder, pork belly, pork meatballs, pork for like banh mi

pork is great

though I usually cook chicken thighs myself for reasons (good crispy skin and easy), pork I prefer going out and more special occasions cooking at home (carnitas, al pastor, banh mi etc)

The UK has some great stuff for that kind of thing.
man I found my absolute favourite tinned mackerel here, smoked and peppered, and idk what I'd do without it T-T

(I'd live I'm being melodramatic but absolutely love it)

only annoying thing is the place I get bread from only accepts cash for under 5 purchases so that's literally the only reason I carry cash lol

really depends on the area

growing up in Texas suburbs, they were pretty common

here in Scotland, lol no. too cold and you don't have big enough yards for it anyway usually. people who like to swim go wild swimming.

idk I feel like my job cause it keeps me going and it's good and it gives me the ability to live pretty much worldwide (I'm on a visa right now)

but also my savings are greater than what my current job can give me, but that's from my previous job in a higher paying area

anyway I'm very thankful for my career, it's opened up doors and gives me a safety net

so that's what first came to mind there

grocery prices are much much lower here than the US but so is income (I took a 75% reduction compared to San Francisco lol..)

I haven't done the math, and there are issues here related with cost of living increases / inflation

but idk how that compares to Costco

It makes some sense, but I'm also not surprised that household bulk purchases have taken off to enough of an extent for Costco to be more open in the US. Suburban sprawl kind of encourages that, with it being less convenient to get to grocery stores (favouring large, infrequent trips over smaller, more frequent ones) and houses being large enough to store bulk food products. Even living in an urban apartment, though, my girlfriend and I go through smaller bulk purchases like frozen fruit quickly enough that we go every two weeks. There's quite a bit of middle ground between buying 50 gallons of mayo and buying a pint, after all, and Costco offers quite a bit within that middle ground (maybe not for mayo, but for other products). If you can get through 1-2 litres of mayo before it goes bad and you've got space to store it, getting a bulk discount makes sense.
the thing I've been using Costco here for is cat litter and cat food, since yeah not really sure what else to use it for. Either I don't see the point (stores are right near by) and/or don't have room to store it if it's a big bulk size.

and when I first moved, things like TV, vacuum, etc.

my bf likes to get gas for his car from there too though, and various other things.

did you know, here in the UK, you can't just get a Costco membership? you have to work for like the government, education, or healthcare.

my bf has a Costco membership from working in government, but he doesn't anymore (and unlikely to return), and I can't imagine losing that membership by stopping payment cause then it's like gone forever!

no, need to decide how I want to do it

last year I paid like 400 for an "expat" service but I don't really want to pay that again, and my situation is less complicated (that year I had mixed US and UK income, bunch of stock stuff, last year it's boring)

so might just file myself? I have extra time and won't owe anything but yeah... need to do that

why is the US the only country (ok I think there's one other obscure country) that does this to non residents T-T
