1 and 4 are both fantastic. The stories are mostly disconnected, so you could just start with 4 if you want.

There's almost zero grinding in them whatsoever, if any.

Easily broken, hrm. There are some pretty cheesy strategies that you can use if you set them up, but those require really specifically trying to work on use. If you play normally, the games are pretty well-balanced.

I'd recommend the series overall. I enjoyed both 1 and 4 quite a bit.

FE keeps a fairly similar core style with a lot of smaller mechanical changes between games. Most games in the series have some kinds of little quirks and changes that make them unique.

I like how FE does it, honestly. It does a good job of keeping a nice core style while making things different enough that you can notice the changes when you really dig deeper into it.

TC, what wireless carriers can you get or do you have? If AT&T works good in your area I can explain how to use it as unlimited home internet in a PM for less than $100 a month.

I've just been using Straight Talk lately for sheer convenience. It's solid for alright amounts of mobile data for reasonably cheap, though it doesn't work for hot spots, sadly.

If I stay here long term, I'll look into AT&T/what you mentioned, though, because it does sound better than what I'm working with right now. Thanks.

Which is exactly why it needs to be classified as a utility.

100% agree.

Work? A lot of jobs require internet, especially right now. A lot are still flat out purely remote right now, and others still need it for communication even if you're not working a job that heavily focuses upon it.

School? Again, right now it's outright crucial. Even when in school learning returns, more and more assignments are turning to net-focused learning. My niece and nephew have had a lot of internet-based assignments even in middle school. It's pretty essential for those.

TV? Cable and satellite TV are hanging on by a thread, to the point where I'm not sure how viable offline shows will be in another decade.

Other entertainment? Streams, gaming, video chats, social media, etc are all focused on online connectivity. Granted, not as big of a thing for older people (aside from social media, I guess), but basically any kid or young adult will need net for s lot of things these days.

It's just getting harder and harder to get by without strong internet these days, and I think that it should be treated as a utility, especially as work and school increasingly move to being more web-based.

Rural? Ever heard of supply and demand? They ain't going to bend over for a few people unless you some millionaire brah. Build more houses and they'll provide better internet.

I get it, but I also wish that the government would offer some kind of incentive or funding for developing infrastructure on that front. I'd argue that the internet is borderline essential these days, so I really do think that it should be a bigger priority.

Let's ask Balrog0 how it's going in Arkansas.
Arkansas is rural as shit outside of Rogers and Littlerock, thus I don't expect the internet to be all that great.

It wasn't great at all in rural Missouri, where my family had nothing until the late 90s, when a computer shop in Excelsior Springs started offering dialup.

I'm living in southern rural Missouri atm and the options are still very very limited here. They're improving in some areas, but a lot of others are still SOL.

I'm strongly considering leaving the state, though. I've lost touch or barely keep up with a lot of my friends by now, so I'm basically only here for family when I don't even see them all THAT often. Moving out of state is becoming more and more appealing.

There's no real drive for rural internetificaton, like there was was for electricity, phone, and mail.
That's why satellite internet has you by the balls, and the only other real option is line-of-sight wi-max.

Municipal Franchise was a mistake.

I really wish that it was a bigger priority for people.

A lot of school, work, entertainment, and communication strictly requires internet access these days.

Granted, part of that is due to COVID and the need for remote work, but it was trending that way even before that.

Either way, I think that the net is only going to be more and more important in the future, and I really think that there should be a bigger push for viable rural internet options, even aside from my own woes.

i used to live in a pretty rural location, and the best internet we had access to was a 56k modem, back when DSL was still pretty new and just being rolled out residentially. and the phone lines where we lived were so old and corroded that the 56k connection only connected at a max of 28.8k.

i eventually got a Sprint cellphone and a plan that allowed tethering to use the cellphone as a modem, i used that for a few years, before we moved somewhere where cable was available and we finally got that.

Upgrading my phone plan is probably my play if I stay here, but honestly, I'm probably going to just going to move some time soon.

I moved here because it was affordable, and close to my job + family/friends, but honestly, I don't even see my family or friends that much by now anyway, and I'm really not super fond of living out of the city. I'm strongly considering a bigger move if not just moving out of state in general by now, for a variety of reasons.

Yeah, the discrepancy is pretty absurd.

I'm supposed to be getting more than what I actually get, but I only approach the speeds that I pay for maybe 30% of the time. The rest is a big gamble, including this garbage.

I really wish that there were better options out there, but internet options are really bad outside of cities, unfortunately. There are some options with satellite internet, but they're not all there yet, and most of them are expensive, limited by time and/or data caps, or are just really unreliable.

I'm definitely moving as soon as I get a better job. There are some perks to living out of the city, but I can't say I'm enjoying it overall.

As long as they don't cancel the show altogether, I'm not that bothered. Jimmy was never that great a character anyway. They could just not show him on screen anymore (or even just not give him lines) and I'd probably never notice - compared to, say, Early on Squidbillies who they're gonna need to recast if they want to keep that show going.

Yeah, I could see a world where they just silently retire him into a background character.

If it was like, Teddy or Mr. Frond or someone more prevalent, they'd definitely have to find a way around it, but Jimmy Pesto could probably just be cut from storylines without much changing, if they really wanted to. It would probably be the end of Trev as a character, but he's not that important.

I could totally see having Jimmy go to jail in universe due to storming the capital and then basically what happens to Jimmy is what happens to his VA.

If the VA doesn't serve jail time and comes back after community service, there it is. If he does serve some time, have that happen and write him back in when he is released.

Assuming his voice is not too hard to replicate for someone else, just recast.

Tbh I doubt they'd acknowledge it so directly. I could maybe see something where Jimmy gets arrested for committing tax fraud or using horse meat in this food (which was already an episode, so they could tie it in by having him continue to use it since it's cheap) and Bob getting the last laugh. It'd be a fairly fitting way to close out Jimmy's story since the rivalry was such a big point that Bob actually finally getting the last laugh as a business owner would really be a nice way to retire the character.

I'd be pretty surprised if they let the VA come back. They show just isn't going to want that controversy, even aside from potential legal consequences that the VA is facing. If Jimmy Pesto stays on as a character, it's probably through a recast.

I didn't read the thread, but that would work too.

Bob does have quite a few rivals already, so the show could function without Jimmy overall, but it would take a hit since Jimmy is easily the most prevalent.

I think the most elegant solution would be to have Jimmy lose the restaurant to his wife, and she takes over and turns out to be just as bad as Jimmy.

Otherwise just silently retire him into a background character.

You can't really write him out entirely because you lose Jimmy Jr., who is pretty big in the show. There's also the twins and Trev to a lesser extent.

But yeah, I can't see the VA returning after this. The show really wouldn't want the negative PR from any of that.

My grades are just to low to go. And I don't have any professors I can't get recommendations from. If I do a second degree I can improve my grades, and get recommendation letters. I think the real issue is that I just want to go to grad school as an ideal and don't have much of an end in mind.

I definitely wouldn't go to grad school without a clear objective in mind. It's a pretty big investment in terms of time, money, and workload. I mean, if you have a specific goal in mind, it's worth going, but I wouldn't take on a bigger commitment like that just solely for the sake of going. (With that said, I do kind of get it, my bachelor's is really mediocre and I've been doing a lot of research on grad school lately, but I'm still not set on specifically what I'm going for. I was also considering a second bachelor's, but the fairly overwhelming consensus that I saw was that it won't really do a lot for you in most cases.)

You can also get in through means other than GPA. There are readiness tests that you can take, and a lot of programs look at work experience. Recommendations can come from employers as well. I don't think you necessarily need a second degree to get in. I'd consider talking to an academic advisor to see if you can get some more in-depth advice on that front, but there are definitely ways to get into grad school without doing an entire second degree program in advance.

There's a lot that you can do with her, but the series never bothered. Even if she didn't scale into the endgame, she could have gotten a few more actual canon fights at some point in the series.
