anyway, for a long while, things had to pass some kinda "threshold" before others might acknowledge something as racist, homophobic, sexist, and so on.

problem is, the affected group would have long since hurt/offended/whatever before that point.

why should I tell a gay person, for example, how they should feel when a comment offends them? I don't have that history influencing my world view to fully understand how things might impact the aforementioned person
