Bernie is really just running on giving away free stuff. Hes as much of a caricature as trump is.

his final answer in the Nevada debate shows that he is still a corrupt politician. Not wanting to follow process to gain an unfair advantage, trying to manipulate the people to see the process as rigged if he doesnt get nominated.

She can do basic ones like 6x10, but she doesnt have the grid from 1x1 to 10x10 down without using a calculator for something like 6x7 or 9x4.

which isnt an exaggeration to say you dont know your times tables, which should be values anyone can say within a second or two.

For 13% Id estimate just do n/10 then add about a third of that. Or get my phone out if I need to be exact or confident.

The trade offs just werent really worth it to take the position I wouldve liked more. Very Similar work as Im very specialized, but better atmosphere.

By the numbers youre crunching, Im guessing youre making 60-80k more than I am.... which means youre close to 200, no? You dont have to answer that, thats personal. But yeah.

All I know is that I already proclaimed 2020 to be a money making year, I am planning on working on more revenue streams. With that said... I think you should try to open up a side business.

140k base, 7k 403b match, 457b serves as second retirement account with pre-tax investments, a few thousand in bonuses and different employer reward programs. I split expenses with my SO (me paying 2/3 of them and her 1/3) so I spend about 20-25k annually. I do some credit card churning to get some more (two cards right now will get you 2kish in free flights plus bring a buddy for free).

Its very unlikely I dont get that initial 30% raise I mentioned, Ill get the other eventually but maybe have to switch offices if I want it. Theres also possibly one more but that one depends on my dedication to finding where would offer that much.

Having a girlfriend isnt bragging to me. Like I dont know many people who are single and 28.

Idk, like I dont have a lot going on in life other than having been working on a career I dislike and dating/relationship, so its what I talk about. I got big into personal finances for a year so talked about money more than the board cares for. Im gaining some fat working in an office so Ill hopefully talk about fitness soon.

Actually it's an interesting question, should we focus on teaching our children information or methods that they have constant and easy access to with the internet/phones etc?

I would argue something as simple as basic multipllcation should at least still be taught as it allows you to do many things in life, quickly, without needing to stop and pull out your phone etc. That argument though, does fail a bit when you realize how often mistakes are made because people have not USED those skills for years and when they try, they often make mistakes.

Perhaps actually having people use a calculator every time, might cost a bit of time, but save a ton of effort/money in the long term due to less errors.

Meanwhile, should we focus on exact dates etc, or just general knowledge, since you can look up exact facts now anywhere. Perhaps education at this point should focus more on actually using our resources to find answers you want, and providing children with the methods to teach themselves, more than the traditional memorization that was primarily used.

Mental back of the hand calculations are huge in my every day life. My friends comment they find it weird how I calculate everything, but I find knowing relative quantities to put things in perspective as incredibly useful.

Where else can I go in the US? People on PotD and a few friends have said to avoid Miami and LA. The latter would work if Im doing a more general road trip around west coast and have LA as a small part of it?

I had my first trip to NYC in December. Hotel on Times Square across from the Hamilton theater.

I was pretty unimpressed. It felt like a giant outdoor shopping mall. But I was surprised how it was exactly like what you see in the movies. I think if I hadnt seen it in the movies so much it would have been a different experience. But I feel a lot of travel will be kinda dull for me because I know what to expect. I need to find out another way to travel or somewhere else to go maybe, more adventure type locations.

A cat consumes roughly 18 ml of oxygen in a minute of oxygen while under anesthesia according to this study from 1954

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0007091217473491/pdf?md5=5632194f314988fd7cc85e57c0654e87&pid=1-s2.0-S0007091217473491-main.pdf

Double the oxygen consumption for a conscious cat and say 36 ml/min.

The oxygen percentage of the air is 20.95%. In a human "Death occurs in 8 minutes at 6 percent to 8 percent oxygen; recovery is possible after 4 to 5 minutes if oxygen is restored."

There are roughly 22.5 to 31 cubic feet in a fridge. Take 22 because of the extra crap in it. 622971 ml.

Multiply by 0.2095, 130512 ml of that is oxygen. Death will occur when 37378-49837 ml of oxygen remains. Your range is 93134 - 80675 of ml/min.

Your cat had roughly 2587 - 2240 minutes to live in your fridge.
Your cat had roughly 43 - 37 hours to live in your fridge.

By comparison, a human has roughly 5.5 hours until death in a coffin.
https://www.popsci.com/article/science/how-long-could-you-survive-coffin-if-you-were-buried-alive/

Why did I do that

I agree with your work. Kitty seems safe. Gets back into the fridge ever chance he gets. Here he is drinking milk from a wine glass.

I feel so bad, I came home from work today (luckily I left early for an appointment, was only at work 8 hours) and found my cat in the refrigerator. He must've jumped in while I was closing and and I didn't notice.

I am worried he might have brain damage. He acts all normal, he seemed a little groggy when I opened it up but it went away in like 20 seconds. Not sure if it was because he was asleep or the light, I hope the little guy didn't have any oxygen issues :(

Before that I focused on doing great at school and coming out debt free. Being a professional in a competitive field blows. I'd much rather have been with people who cared about having a life, but instead I'm with people who view you as ****** person for not wanting to work 60h every week (or 80h 'when I was your age'). Go for PhD

Statistically people reach a plateau of happiness after 100k so more money won't make you happier than your are now.

I'm somewhat frugal, basically anything over 25k goes into an early retirement fund. It I was just spending the money it would be an easy decision. Assuming 50k spending each year (because I want to overdo my calculation), $1,250,000 basically will cover me for the rest of my life with the interest. I would enjoy the process of the PhD and having the more laid back position.

You are very right about this. I spend about 25k and funnel the rest into index funds. The difference isn't necessarily about what I spend each year, but for when I get to 'retire'. Assuming 50k spending each year (because I want to overdo my calculation), $1,250,000 basically will cover me for the rest of my life with the interest. If I had to work until 60-65 Id have another job within a year, early retirement complicates it for me.

right now Im making 140k likely to go up to 180k within two years. I could possibly swing for 220k-260k doing Locum assignments if I wanted to live in hotel (and Id work less).

Really tough life decision here. Ive always dreamed of a PhD, but also of financial independence at a young age. A PhD in my field isnt specifically worthwhile or my first choice of fields, but its commonplace and a childhood dream and would be somewhat interesting and open up careers in science writing or university teaching.

I was more rewarded for signing up for the cards than for the money spending. One card is 5k within three months and one card is 5k within six months, which both are pretty reasonable considering you can buy gift cards for groceries and amazon and such. Especially for college students, whose universities may allow you to pay for tuition, dorm, and books with a credit card.

idk man, I like hanging out with my girlfriend. She's really nice and understanding, we've been living with each other for a year now.

She's just bad with money and lazy and messy. Blames it on depression, doesn't go exercise or see a therapist. Doesn't care about anything other than social media and has no hobbies or interests outside of watching sitcoms. No interest in travel other than to Disney World. The few things she does like seems to be things her parents decided on and were parts of her childhood. Makes decisions she knows is bad, lets them snowball. Will spend 11-12 hours in bed on the weekend.

She's super nice and supportive. I initially thought we had a lot in common, but her personality is to just morph and make everyone around her happy. I mentioned it and she said she just wants to make everyone around her happy, and it's fine to just agree with them about everything because that's what makes people happy. It's like she has no autonomy and is purely reactive.

Called eBay. Said if I didn't return it then they would force the return, I wouldn't have to get the item back, I'd still be charged seller fees, and I'd get a ding on my account.

eBay said to offer free returns and then buyers will be more honest and you might be able to have them pay for shipping.
