your jokes aren't too bad, but you should work on the delivery. i liked the running shoes/mobile phone joke but it needed to land harder that he'd rather have your shoes than your $1000+ iphone

but yeah it sounded like the audience was dead af

yeah, I had more on that one but I thought I heard someone yell boo at that point so I was thrown off and decided to move on. That's when I was like "so that happened........"

I was gonna go on about how this guy was making great money in a much cheaper part of the country and how it seemed like he had thought about it before I ever mentioned it that he would want my shoes. I'll try that next time.

thanks!

It was completely dead by the time I went up. It was in a Thai restaurant. I don't think I got a sincere laugh but once I got up there it was too bright to see anyone. Then after me this guy was talking about how he lost his phone and was going to punch whoever looked like they have it. He was kidding but he kept going on about it.

Then afterwards he was ranting at the host for several minutes and got everyone really uncomfortable. I hadn't mentioned it was my first one to anyone but it was so dead and then tense it wasn't a great atmosphere to talk about anything.

Ah well! Now I know I can survive dead silence at least. I won't have to beat myself up for being too afraid to try anymore. Maybe it helped that it was low key.

a lot of the young middle class really cannot afford to start families because they're too busy shouldering the tax burden of bureaucrats and people that can't afford to start families but do so anyway

who is selfish then

i understand this does not apply to tc's situation, but what's the point of striving to make what he does if he sees less than half of that money

because he's getting great benefits and saving much of it? Christ, you'd think someone who worked hard to get there wouldn't equate their taxes the same as benefits which will give them more money in the long run.

And if we had more affordable health care and benefits the "etc." portion may not be as high.

I can agree to disagree, and I've been trying to be nice up to this point, but let's be real here. You started off by calling my opinion "pretty fucked up", called me intellectually dishonest, accused me of strawmanning and distortion, all while ignoring 3/4 of what I had said. And even as I quoted back the exact sections from the article that had holes in their reasoning, you persisted in not responding to any of my criticisms, instead returning to petty insults and insisting that the precise points I was quoting from the article itself were somehow not the points he was making.

I suppose it is good to know that Coates has such virulent fanboys, though, so next time I can feel free to even more harshly criticize the weak parts of his writing without having to worry that there's nobody around to defend his fragile honor.

Yeah 10 miles is limiting, but with only a ten second cool down you can cover a great distance in little time. I mean if my math is right and it usually isnt you can cover like 3600 miles in an hour so in about 7 hours you could possibly go all the way around the earth. Also get in a bad situation just teleport away.

you'd die in the ocean.

Why are people so God damn obtuse that they can't actually go along with a hypothetical? Why do they always have to pull the "akchooalee that wouldn't happen" shit.

I'd think the most hardcore would fall into pretty severe existential crisis. They'd need social support more than ever. The rest would likely come to terms with it over a short amount of time.

they're not going along with it because the hypothetical is impossible. there is no possible proof that an imaginary bring doesn't exist.

unless by evidence we acknowledge that there is already evidence, in which case it isn't hypothetical.
