Never heard of the "pound" name or meaning (abr. of lbs) before today. I also thought people were confusing it with £.

Which is incorrect. Sincs it's a hash, used as a tag.
Hash is a nickname. Number symbol is the official name. "pound" is a regional (US) name but also correct.

Sharp (music) is actually another symbol (cross looks different) so that's even more incorrect than hashtag. (That name eas made popular by microsoft)

Note that not being serious, is not the same as humour.
I couldn't detect any (dark) humour in your "ram my cart into them" remark.
I doubt she's very offended. But apologizing and then taking it back with the very weak "it was a joke" didn't help.
You might be incompatible with her.
