Huh... so I came across a novel adaptation of Gundam Build Fighters. I wouldn't be so surprised if it's a traditional Gundam series, but this one is really unexpected.

Pretty interesting that it's written in first-person, considering that the other Gundam novels I've read are all in third-person. It does keep the story fresh though, and reading from Reiji's perspective really feels different when you already know what's he up to.

Yeah they fucking skipped 6~9

In all seriousness, are they gonna start doing like

EO 1~5
EOU 1~2
EOX 1~

Maybe they should also take the time to rename the series into something more appropriate, considering "Etrian" Odyssey doesn't make sense for every game but EO/U1

The original Japanese name was world of yggsdrissal or something and that actually made sense since the games are all about different worlds with the yggsdrissal tree that plays a huge part in the story. It's resident evil (original name is biohazard) all over again lol

Yup. It's Sekaiju no Meikyuu (), which roughly translates to "Labyrinth of the World Tree"

So... it turns out that the Fullmetal Alchemist live action movie does have a novel version. It's divided into 12 chapters, and there won't be any problems with actors and costumes, so I can already see it being better than the movie in almost every way.

https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B077Z341L7/?coliid=I1QXXGGGUKYUAZ&colid=OYVU943LV6AJ&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

That said, while reading the sample, I visualized the story in manga designs with live action voices. Feels pretty weird.

Yeah I'd usually just leave anime to anime

It's just that some things make for better adaptations than others, really.
Stuff like 20th Century Boys, Gintama, and Gyakuten Saiban turn out well.

Two things I like about the FMA live action are how well it establishes characters in such a short time and how natural the dialogue sounds, I guess.
Which is also why I don't like the costumes (specifically Ed's hair and the Homunculi), because the contrast is really jarring.

And I'm really digging the theme song (MV contains some spoilers).

And speaking of songs, I've made an attempt at translating a certain song I really like.
I vaguely remember there being an official translation of it, but I can't find it anywhere now.

Not even sure if I got it all right, to be honest. Lyric's kinda poetic.

I'll always recommend Kino's Journey. Volume 1 isn't completely translated though, but you can just skip it if you've watched any season of the anime.

Narita's other works like Baccano! and Durarara!! are also worth reading, if you haven't already.

There's also Mushoku Tensei, I guess. I've read the web novel version only up to Volume 3, but I'd say it's a good one.

Never heard of Kino's Journey, dunno what I think about it after a google search.

I watched the Durarara anime, and I think that covered the whole thing. Watched Baccano too, but I dunno how much the anime covered.

Kino's journey is pretty hard to explain, but it's essentially about several groups of travelers (starts with only the titular Kino, but occasionally shifts focus to several others) as they go around the world and witness some eccentric culture and people. It's an episodic series with each chapter focusing on one particular place or event.
The 2003 anime series adapted the serious stories for the most part, while the 2017 series has a balance of both serious and lighthearted ones.

To my knowledge, the second season of Durarara!! does abridge the events of the novel quite a bit, and I'd say that the overall differences between them are still enough to warrant a read.

As for Baccano!, the anime covers the first 3 volumes with a few glimpses of 4. The novel is 22 volumes long and still ongoing.

So I'm going through the sample of the Monster Hunter World novel. Not officially classified as a light novel this time, strangely.

Story seems to be following the game closely so far, but from the perspective of a general applicant of the fleet rather than the player, an A-List hunter. The first part of Chapter 1 essentially shows what goes on with the fleet while you're out doing the tutorial, which is pretty cool.

And on a side note, the two other Famitsu Bunko new releases I'm interested in (Shinigami Shoujo and Thousand Memories) both have a one month delay for their digital releases. Real bummer, that.

I've read Japanese reviews that mention strange writer quirks that the reviewer hated. Like it was some word that was repeated but used in a not quite fully correct way?

It was actually Youjo Senki. A guy really had trouble with the author's writing habits lol

Don't know about Youjo Senki, but I think I might have come across some quirks in the things I've read.

Like, I guess Yuuki Rin's writing style is pretty unusual, since I've noticed that the first and third-person perspectives are blended together at certain points. It's normal in the Thai language so I didn't think much of it at first, but I haven't seen it in any other work.

Do you still have the link to that review, by the way? I'm pretty curious about it.

Unabridged version gets really confusing to read sometimes. It's very very long for plot points that are either unnecessary or verbose at best. I guess for the impatient modern people who have other forms of entertainment, all the fluff is pretty unnecessary, which is what I appreciate about LNs in general, that it does leave things to the imagination

Eh, that's not really a big problem for me. I'll probably be able to get through it fine as long as it's not early modern English like Shakespeare or something. Well, time might be a problem if it's long, since I'm the type to usually read every single word.

Anyways, fascination with the language aside, I'd say I like Japanese novels for how much I can get out of a limited amount of text, provided that it's written well. That and small paragraphs making it easier to keep track of things.
LNs are surprisingly good for language training as well, as far as reading is concerned. Still not very confident in my speaking, and my handwriting is basically nonexistent.

Alexandre Dumas is one of the older writers that I can really appreciate. Generally I don't like reading old stuff in general. Very dense and difficult to read without various contexts along with non-valuable writing style or diction in the modern sense for a good reason

But The Count of Monte Cristo and especially The Three Musketeers are very good reads.

Huh, I actually remember liking The Three Musketeers when I read it in school at one point. Pretty sure it's an abridged translation though. Maybe I should try to getting an unabridged version.

And now that I think about it, some Japanese classics I've read are actually pretty easy to understand. Well, they aren't that old as the other stuff (most are from early 20th century), but it's pretty surprising that their writing styles are hardly different from modern novels.

Wrongo. No self inserts here. The Author I'm referring to is Alexandre Dumas, and his power to Forge Noble Phantasms and make them stronger.

So yeah the author self inserted himself as an author, i assume a caster class, and made it op as hell?

That's par for the course when it comes to LN's

FYI, that Author is a real world historical figure, a French writer.

https://www.reddit.com/r/LightNovels/comments/83ichn/news_the_reprise_of_the_spear_hero_series/

Also, I just finished reading Shippuu no Tsubasa Volume 5. This one has two simultaneous main hunts, with the Shippuu crew tackling the Ukanlos, and the Tamashii crew coming back together to fend off Blangongas. Looks like the Flash Hunter manga took some notes from this volume for its Tigrex arc as well.

Overall, I'd say that Shippuu has some of the most intense hunts in the whole series, with all of them being under some kind of severe constraint. Starts off pretty rough in the first volume, but the rest are great.
Even with one of the MCs being established as OP right off the bat, Hikami managed to pull it off by focusing on the monsters' strengths and abilities. Pretty cool, that.

The drama is more akin to ones in shonen manga, I guess? Noob MC works hard to live up to OP MC's skills, younger boy falls for mature lady, diligent rich kid proving that he can get things done, stuff like that. Petty different from Yuuki Rin's series and Tamashii, which were more on the gritty side, but good stuff all the same.

There's a special volume called Tsumugareshi Kizuna, which has a few short stories for the Tamashii and Shippuu crew, including a Chameleos hunt. But I'm setting aside my remaining Amazon balance for the MH World LN, so I won't be reading that very soon.
