The only thing it's missing is a jump button so I'm not sure I get this critique. It's not like DQXI where you can run around but it doesn't do anything; you can actually dodge attacks in FF7R.
slow response here- i think i've been spoiled by sekiro/soulsbornes, where inputs are ultra-responsive, predictable and consistent with their animations

at least in the demo, cloud & co moves at kind of a slow pace, and their attacks pull from a set of random animations, so when you hit a move it takes a random amount of time to happen. enemy attacks will sometimes stagger you and sometimes won't

you can tell they were a little insecure about it, since they added a few extra systems on top of combat, i forget what they're called

it's not terrible gameplay by any means, but it sits in a completely subjective "gameplay uncanny valley". i will most likely get it if it appears on pc eventually

I played the demo/ preview, and the combat felt like it was in this weird in-between space

It didn't give you full control or freedom/ responsiveness of movement, but it didn't let you put down the controller and play it like a traditional rpg, either

I wonder if it felt better during the main game

i'm not sure what the 'best' actual star trek film is, but as a dark horse i enjoyed the campiness of the one about humpback whales. khan was entertaining. i also have vague positive memories of the one where picard invents FTL

the reboot was entertaining, although the weak ending almost ruins everything about it!

I played basketball and track fairly competitively in high school.

I don't think I've ever gotten seriously competitive about a game.

What I mean by that is that I've never dedicated time solely to improving, and have always prioritized having fun. If something is ever unfun, I stop. I've also never put in the work to seriously analyze my play.

With that in mind, I've spent time grinding competitive ladders in a casual manner. Starcraft 2 and Rocket League are standouts. This means I've capped at diamond in sc2 and champ in rocket league, never getting any Grand Champion titles.

I've spent time getting better than all of my local peers at a particular game- Halo: CE, Halo 2, Armagetron Advanced, and various fighting games (NetherRealm Studios ones in particular) but never been good enough to win online and have never attempted tournaments

Hmm. I'll think of candidates.

- the original founders' edition of SWTOR. I never hit max level.

- a $700 suit to wear to my girlfriend's holiday office party. It's a nice suit, but i felt physically ill on the ride home after purchasing it

- a ps4, just because my friend wanted to play bloodborne co op. I was already a pc gamer but figured it was the price of friendship

- not sure if frivolous, just wasteful, but I've missed trains, buses and planes before, and instead of arguing, just paid out the nose for the next one

- i bought a quest 2 and have played maybe 10 hours of echo arena in total

- The board game twilight imperium, 4th edition. I've had a blast playing other people's copies, but have never hosted

- before the FFG netrunner game was shut down, i bought a couple hundred dollars worth of supplemental boxes. I've played the intro box quite a few times, but no one wants to open those supplements or start deckbuilding

- I've spent probably a thousand dollars on art supplies and gaming miniatures in the past year. Nightstalkers and nighthaunt. I feel like I'm getting more personal enjoyment out of this one, but I'm clearly never actually going to play the games so it's a guilty pleasure

now this thread is what i call a saturday night! sir, i'm gonna have to give you a citation for not having your politics flag properly displayed on your topic

.

If you really dig into the conversation in private with almost any american, regardless of whether they reflexively say they're "pro-life" or "pro-choice", they all say and believe the same thing

that abortion is sad and should rarely be done, particularly past the first trimester, but there are clearly situations where it's not only sad but also necessary.

what it comes down to is whether the individual trusts women to make this tough appraisal about their life and their fetus's life privately.

the pro-life crowd does not, and is more afraid of a theoretical mustachio-twirling vixen getting deeply pregnant and aborting for jollies. the pro-choice crowd does, and is more afraid of lawmakers not having the nuance to regulate it properly, creating horrific situations where necessary abortions are blocked, or women are brought before weird tribunals after a traumatic decision to abort.

i'm discounting the truly psychotic religious nutjobs that believe jacking off or having your period or wearing a condom is a sin or whatever.
