Yes, absolutely. Most of the time I do. it is useful for a lot of situations, such as tipping when I go to restaurants, paying people back if I owe them money(and they dont have zelle or care to use it), and purchasing bills out of my cash drawer at work. It's also rare but the credit/debit system at my store has gone down before. Not often or for that long, but it happens.

i watched the whole video and it was way more interesting than I thought.

So the company that makes the machines(the one McDonalds forces franchisees to use), Taylor, gets about 25% of their revenue from service calls to fix machines(the issue could be serious or as minor as the hopper filled with too much mixture).

So, when the machine fails, usually after the 4 hours cleaning process, the screen spits out nebulous codes and meanings nobody can interpret, the manual is aparently just as confusing and most problem chains end up at "call the maintenance guy"

McDonalds itself isn't paying for the service calls, the Franchisees are, so they have zero incentive to care(I guess being an industry joke isn't enough motivation).

Taylor has incentive to make the machines confusing for the user. They get a boatload of money from service calls. There is, however, ZERO reason they can't make a more user friendly machine that the user can fix unless it is something serious you'd actually need a technician for(removing some mixture from the hopper is one thing, some sort of part failure is completely different in terms of skill needed to resolve)

One man created an app that a lot of franchise owners liked, wherein it could actually diagnose the problem, give the user friendly feedback so that they can fix it themselves. Kind of like a third party app that does all the things Taylor doesn't want you to do because it makes them so much money.

McDonalds caught wind of this(at one Franchisee meeting, an owner said this app wasn't corporate approved but it worked really well). and decided to disallow their franchises from using it.

Instead, McDonald's decided to partner with a company to make their own app that does similar stuff. However, it won't be as good because the company making it is owned by the same parent company as Taylor.

The reason you can't get ice cream at McDonald's sometimes is because McD's and Taylor are partnered up with this scheme to make a shitty, user unfriendly machine that keeps Taylor's revenues up with a constant stream of service call revenue paid for by the franchise owners.

The video points out that the target rate of success should be 99.9966%. The success rate of this particular Taylor machine is 85%, which is terrible.

I guess places run the cycle overnight like you'd expect, but if it fails somehow(usually because the machine is overloaded with too much mixture) at mcdonalds they just restart the machine cleaning process. multiple times until it works. maybe other resturants teach their employees to figure out the what the error codes mean and how to fix them if a layperson could, like, emptying the mixture compartment until it isn't too full.

There seems to be a deeper concept behind the video as he says in the intro "....how big businesses protect other businesses even if it hurts their customers"

BUT

the real reason is, the machine goes through a 4 hour cleaning process, and it's just easier to tell customers it is broken

Assuming that quote is originally from The Simpsons and not a parody on that particular episode, this shirt is actually giving off the WRONG message and probably not what he, as a Trump fan, intends.

The idea behind the quote is that Homer feels he isn't to blame for the human race being made into slaves because he voted for Kodos, but either candidate(Kodos or Kang) would have made the human race slaves to build a death ray.

My friends thinking is likely "shit is going to go downhill under Biden, but it isn't my fault because I voted for Trump" which isn't what was meant by the original quote in the Simpsons episode.

I don't like getting into political arguments with friends but this shirt makes him look ultra dumb. Not because it's Trump, because whatever, but because it takes the Simpsons quote and misinterprets it. Taken within the context of the simpsons episode, Trump is also working towards enslaving all of America, just like Biden, not that he is better.

I voted for sephiroth because you chase him around all game and there is legit build up to the final fight, in ways there just isn't in say, 8 or 9.

Kefka is a good villain but he kinda just fucks off after the world of ruin until you fight him, which kinda kills it for me. It feels like fighting him before the world of ruin would be a better ending point perhaps. Though him somewhat succeeding in ruining the world is neat because a lot of villains don't get that far. I just feel like they wasted a lot of potential in the second half of the game.

I am in the back room when a guy walks in. I didn't see him at the time but I later saw it was this dude who comes in on a semi-regular basis and buys a pint of something. He is always super friendly to the people who work here, and i've never seen him cause a problem until tonight.

He comes in, and I guess his mask was not on properly, so my manager told him to put it on correctly. I guess he moved it around but it was still under his nose, so my manager tells him three time to pull it up over his nose, as this guy is walking to the back, around the corner at the end of the first aisle. This guy then says "I heard you....fucker"

The "fucker" was in a lower voice but not a whisper. My manager hears this and tells the man imediately he can leave. The guy walks up front, and at this time I come out from the back room to back up my manager if need be. The guy walks up, my manager again says he can leave, and the guy goes "You want to fight?" and my manager goes "no, but I heard what you said, so you can leave."

At this point I walk into the office which is raised two steps up from the floor, and stand there, still ready to back my manager up if need be. I had to sit down and put my head on the desk because what happened next might be the funniest thing i've ever heard.

My manager tells the guy he heard him call him a fucker. The man goes "I was talking to myself" and my manager fires back without skipping a beat "You call yourself fucker?" and the man goes "yes" like it was a normal thing to do.

At this point things have just turned from potentially bad to comical. Once he realized he may actually not be served, the man does kind of soften up. He starts talking about how the people here all know him(technically true. Most of those people have moved to other stores or retired, and me, a male with long hair(relevant) is the last of that crew left). I am sitting in the chair with my head down, when he points into the office and goes "she knows me" and again, without skipping a beat my manager replies "that's a dude" and the guy didnt say anything, and I couldn't see anything, but at this point I am trying not to audibly cackle with laughter.

The conversation moves along, the guy actually did apologize and did get served with a warning that next time if he disrespects my manager like that again there would be no negotiation.

This guy just casually calls himself fucker out loud in public. I don't think he does, but HE said it.

Basketball endgame sucks, but it does provide for some dramatic moments. However all it is is clock manipulation with fouls and other tricks. In most sports, fouling does NOT help you win. Granted it doesn't for 98% of the game in basketball either.

It's kinda bad. There is a neat alternative ending to basketball used in the Basketball Tournament(thats its name) called the Elam Ending.

The idea is that at 4 minutes the game clock stops and becomes irrelevant. There is then a target score either team must reach, and that is the leading teams score +8. If either team gets to that number of points, the game is over.

https://thetournament.com/elam-ending

It sounds neat, but i have no idea if it actually was good or not. They have kept using it at this one tournament so maybe it is interesting.

Anyways, I think this is a bad idea. Soccer in most countries is run more capitalisticly than any US sport could dream of, which has its fair share of issues(such as two teams winning the scottish league every year just about for the last century, and three teams in Portugal winning almost every year for the last 84), but this is like a slap in the face in this already unbalanced, capitalistic culture. It's teams with a lot of money(not necessarily quality) wanting to make even more money by secluding themselves off from everybody else and making their own competition. I'm not a fan of it, and I hope the teams get punished for it. The highest honor in the sport now isn't going to be winning your domestic league(wherein you can be relegated if you don't play well), or the Champions League(reward for finishing in a top spot in your league, has group stages and knockout rounds). It's going to be this, because this could be where all the top talent congregates. But winning this super league should feel hollow in a way, and not a celebrated achievement.

The first one I have tried out is Sir Walter Scott's Latakia Blend.

This one has me excited because I heard good things and it is a highly revered type of tobacco used in pipes. On the tin it smells like toast. What I call toast is like a burnt but pleasant type of smell. There is definitely some other shit in there, but I just don't know what it is.

So... how does it take and what does it actually smell like?

This stuff is a medium brown color and somewhat finely ground. For me it is pretty easy to take and it hits fairly hard.

It smells like that toasty smell from the tin but better, but with other elements at play here. I don't know what it is, but this stuff is great.

Finally a Sir Walter Scott's I like. But I can't place my finger on why. It is smokey, which I like, but other than that, what is it?

For perhaps a more expert opinion, things cherry picked from reviews:

a lot of people note how it smells like pipe tobacco.

One man says "camp fire, cream and lemons"

"
Finely ground, fermented Latakia tobacco blended with a little first priming flue cured Virginia Lemon leaf, to create a unique, silky, slightly moist, peppery high nicotine snuff with an intense smokey flavour."

So...yeah, it's that time again! I bought some more snuff. I was excited to see how these turn out, because my last two batches I ordered contained a bunch of meh or gross smelling snuff. I've also tried 3 or 4 Sir Walter Scott's and was not impressed by any of them. Whale Ambergris and Amaretto wasn't that great. I have three more on the way. I've had one sniff of something so far, which I will detail later on, so I haven't cracked into this. I will go through and review them at various points perhaps. I stuck with mainly English this time and I didn't buy any mints except Wilson's Crumbs of Comfort because its like Orbit sweetmint gum and is nice. Overbearing blasts of menthol are not my thing. So I decided to go simple.

The lineup:

McChrystal's:

Mulled Magic(christmas ginger scent)
SP
CBD(this actually does work as moderate, temporary pain releif/management. It's worth a buy)

Sir Walter Scott's:

I've not had one of theirs I liked yet. I can assume the tobacco they use is top shelf, but the scents I have bought before weren't my thing. But I have 3 here I really am excited for. I had to cut a 4th one, an Islay Scotch scent, out to save costs. This had great reviews but could be gimmicky.

Latakia Blend: Latakia is a type of tobacco named after the Syrian port city. This is a high quality blend of tobacco, which descriptions in reviews I saw made me excited for it.

Havana Toast: supposed to smell like an authentic Cuban cigar. I want to believe the reviewer who used to be a guy in DC years ago when he says it smells just like what a Cuban dignitary gave him one day.

Auld Alliance: Who even knows with these names? But I was interested in this one. Tin is giving off some Copenhagen(the inferior form of snuff) and chewing tobacco(yum, sometimes) vibes. Interesting.

Toque:

Violet. I wanted something on the floral side with an obvious name that should just smell like what it is

Samuel Gawith:

Kendall Brown Original. Just a highly regarded tobacco blend

Celtic Talisman. Supposed to evoke a cafe atmosphere? Hmm...

Fribourg and Tryer

High Dry Toast
Morlaix
Old Paris
Bordeaux
Santo Domingo
Princes special.

All of these just caught my attention for one reason or another I forget at the moment, and they are all sealed with plastic I don't want to crack just yet.

Wilson's of Sharrow:
  • Rows of Sharrow(some english law says they cannot call it Rose of Sharrow, so they changed the name at one point to Rows, so Rose influenced scent)
  • Africa
  • Best Dark
  • Plain(straight tobacco, baby)
  • Macouba
  • Royal George(one of the few from the last two orders I liked a lot. For me it's like velevty tobacco, but y'know)
  • Jockey Club(heavily perfumed floral bouquet and one of my friend's favorites)
  • Gold Label
  • Grand Cairo(I get suckered into these ones with vague place names. I've bought this before, I recall liking it I think, but my friend asked me to buy it)
  • S.P. 100(SPs are generally unflavored tobacco spiced up with something like citrus)
  • Apri(cot. Another one that should smell like what it is. I also don't recall offhand what an Apricot smells like.)
  • Crumbs of Comfort(a menthol on the lighter side, smells like Orbit sweet mint gum)

The last one on the list is the only non English one, and it is coffee kick by 6 Photo. I really wanted Dhlolakia's coffee cream, but it was sold out.

Folks, I'm pretty excited.
