I actually got a pre-order and thought I was safe.

Till Walmart fucking cancelled them all a week later because they went up by accident.

It was definitely Nintendo that likely pressured them to cancel the orders because Walmart is one of the few retailers out there that actually honors fuck ups or price mistakes and the like.

How would the US realistically respond. As in I'm just curious what plan of attack they'd take.

Wasn't it due to this? I mean it does add up. Especially since Nintendo forecast they were gonna sell 10 million units throughout this financial year.

The NAND shortage from last year is true. There's no confirmed statement from Nintendo that they were affected by this. They would have taken the opportunity to use this excuse like they did with the port strikes.

But Nintendo is always underestimating demand. So going by Occam's Razor, it's likely those issues, and not some third party.

It wasn't a random insider either. It was the Wall Street Journal.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/nintendo-battles-apple-for-parts-as-switch-demand-rises-1496136603

Keep in mind that Nintendo already forecast 10 million for the financial year before it launched and I believe that's what their manufacturing is matching so far. It might be a case of not being able to order more than what was originally ordered for 2017 because of the part shortage.

WSJ is not the source. They have "insider sources" who made this claim based on speculation and then it spiraled out of control with click bait.

WSJ also had the same "insider sources" confirm that they had doubled production of the Switch from the estimated 8 million for the fiscal year, to 16 million.

Kimishima promptly shot that down and said the forecast is 10 million for this fiscal year

Going by max capacity selling, it's basically selling the original 8 million projected. Otherwise, if we're believing WSJ's sources, then literally half the stock is sitting somewhere.

None of this discounts anything, just that none of these claims are substantiated and you can't just assume when no other proof is there.

There's a component scarcity with the flash memory IIRC. They have to share with Apple and other smartphone manufacturers which is slowing things down. It's a shame. Hopefully they can get more out there for the holiday season.

This is an unverified and unsubstantiated rumor coming from insider sources which are not reliable at all. Just a bunch of clickbait stuff.

If it was truly affecting Nintendo, they would have used that excuse instead of actually admitting "we get it wrong sometimes"

Nintendo is just being slow as usual.
