The real reason that Hillary won is very simple. It's because most people don't vote in the primaries. The people who do are mostly old people. And they facor conservative, "safe" candidates that won't rock the boat. The young people who love Bernie don't vote, and while they may have come out in much bigger numbers than ever before, it still wasn't enough to overcome the stodgy old establishment types that have always dominated the primaries. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that more than half the people who complain about the primaries being "rigged" against Bernie didn't even vote for him. --- i am truley sorry for your lots |

Thongs and pictures of women where the nipple is partially visible through clothing are examples of this. Unfortunately there is no way to explicitly define every situation so there are bound to be grey areas. So if you post something that is borderline, it's going to depend on things like which moderator sees it and your post history. It may not be totally fair, but can you think of a set of guidelines that would explain what is and isn't okay, 100%, with zero ambiguity in in any situation? I doubt it. But there have been plenty of funny people who came from the show after that. Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Andy Samberg (and the rest of Lonely Island of course), Bobby Moynihan, Tracy Morgan, Maya Rudolph... probably there are plenty more I'm forgetting. But some absolutely brilliant comedians have been on that show since the days I watched it regularly. And I'm sure plenty more funny people will be on the show in the years to come. I am also sure there will be old people complaining that the show isn't funny anymore, just like some of my aunts and uncles complained that it wasn't funny anymore when I was watching it. Only the first five "not ready for prime time players" seasons are funny to them. Of course it wasn't everybody--my parents still enjoyed it, even though they weren't their favorites. So it's possible to be an old person who likes old things without dismissing everything that comes after. I'm glad that I'm more like them. --- i am truley sorry for your lots |

Why are people acting like this professor is "fighting" to change things? The "fight" has been over since the 1980s. George Carlin had a rant about political correctness going too far--but in that rant, he said that changing mankind to humankind is a good idea. And this was 1989! When I went to college in the late 1990s it was just a given that we had to avoid using sexist words like "mankind." And I was at a Catholic university so it's not like this was some bastion of leftist extremism. I also remember having a lengthy discussion about it on these boards in the early 2000s. From what I recall there were a few complainers but most of us were just discussing what terms were the best in terms of not being sexist or overly gendered, without sounding awkward. We weren't even arguing over whether or not we should have to do it--just discussing the best way stylistically to do it. So now in 2018 I come in to this topic and people are acting like not saying "mankind" is this new thing that this liberal professor is trying to push on you all of a sudden... and a lot of the liberals seem to be acting like this is still up for debate! It's not. For the record, I do think humankind is a little unwieldy so I wrote "humanity" in my college papers. --- i am truley sorry for your lots |
