saw a fair amount of hype for it (for a wii game) but nothing seems to have come of it. it... it did get released, right? how was it, how was it received?

This post confuses me in a few ways. How are wii games measured differently on the hype scale and also what do you mean "nothing seems to have come of it"? What sort of end product do you expect from hype.

On the question it was very good, in my top 5 games of the generation.

question does england, wales and Northern Ireland count as one country or 3. I feel like I'm cheating somehow counting them as 3.

If its all UK then I've been to 5 foreign countries. All of them in western europe so I wouldn't be too judgmental about folk who don't leave their continent. Traveling isn't for everyone.

FF12 and Eternal Sonata had weak casts. SO4 is worst.

FF13 and ToS did not have weak casts. No idea about abyss.

Thanks for the link sonton, I'll give it a look through.

And pun, the battle system is a lot better in 4. Story feels a lot more disjointed and the character cast is awful. Depends what you didn't like in SO3 (may be a long list). Wouldn't say I don't like 4 it's "ok" but the cast is really bad.

Thing is, I actually quite liked Star Ocean 3's cast. Had a few eyebrow raisers but Fayt, Cliff, Maria, Albel and Nel were all decent. I did not expect such badness from its successor.

I was toying with the idea of declaring Reimi tolerable earlier in the game but it seems now the only interest the script has with her is throwing her naked into proceedings before the high-larious "zomg perv" awkward exchange with Edge. It wasn't funny the first time, just horrible.

I'm also literally describing the best character in the game here.

Probably Portal, it was an alright game that I liked but I find the fanbase so insufferable. Smash bros is another one. "Ashamed" is a bit strong and...ridiculous although I assume you're being OTT, more accurate is they're fanbases I wouldn't like to be considered a part of.

Mentioned already but I would be too insecure to admit I play or play Pokemon in public. There's too much of a public stigma about it being a tv show for 10 year olds to be worth the hassle.

Seriously though, quite literally half of my top 10 are FF games. In my head for deciding my favourite series I'd subconsciously remove FF because its so far ahead it'd remove the fun out of picking one.
I don't think any other series will ever go on a run of 5 triple A titles in a row that FF did with VI-X.

On a brighter note the soundtrack is really good in parts, somewhat makes up for the voice acting problems. Especially the dungeon tracks I've come across so far.

Because I don't understand japanese and assume that voice acting will meet some sort of minimum standard. ._.

Keep in mind I'm a guy who regularly watches dubbed anime without complaint, my voice acting standards are very, very low. Lymle just takes the piss, her whole "kay" thing is really grating too, its not cute or endearing when it sounds like its coming from a soulless plastic doll.

This is seriously one of the most incomprehensible reasons to dislike something. Damn near everything in the entertainment industry is completely scripted and we're going to criticize one of the *less* scripted things (in that the action is generally mostly improvised, as opposed to being 100% choreographed like in, say, an action movie, and some guys do improvise their promos at least in part and often have to cover for mistakes and so forth) for being too scripted?

It's not that difficult to understand The thrill in sport is in the fair contest and the unpredictable nature of that, if you believe that everything is as it seems (which a child would) then wrestling appears a very exciting sport. When you start viewing it in the context of a scripted play its dull and tedious in comparison to TV and Movies. Figuring out wrestling isn't real doesn't ruin it because its scripted, it ruins it because you no longer view it as a fair sport which previously bridged the entertainment gap to scripted tvs/movies.

Used to obsess over it as a kid. Drama, violence and over the top shenanigans is every little boys perfect show.

Why grown men are into it I've no idea, once you tweak at how scripted everything is its difficult to enjoy it to the same degree. Its still easy watching, I can think of a lot of worse things to watch.
