The core gimmick of Wii U is tremendously lame and it was lame even in 2013 when it came out. The controller lasts about 3 hours on a charge....it's pathetic. The screen is unimpressive both in size and in brightness/color output. It's 480p, and a resistive touch screen so your fingers don't work properly on it.

Developers struggled to find compelling uses for it, they mostly ignored it or only used it for basic things like ... ugh... MAPS. or extra buttons. Nobody is getting excited at that prospect, it's BORING.

And I would be fine with using hardly any colors if it looked anywhere near as arresting as Limbo does. hopefully the genericness from the trailer is limited to the starting area.

I'm not a huge fan of samus returns's visuals because it's so low resolution

And I like Metroid Fusion's and Zero Mission's visuals about equally. I like how zero mission's backgrounds look like manga illustrations

Metroid prime looks great. It's a good example of how to properly use muted colors. It's cohesive and effectively uses bright colors to add eyecatching highlights. Almost every room has a different feeling to it thanks to smart use of light and color

Dread just isn't pulling that off as well so far IMO.

Why would I have a fault with metroid 2 lacking color when it came out on a black and white system and isn't very good-looking even when you account for that.
IDK why you even bring that up as if it refutes the blandness of Dread's visuals. This is 2021 not 1997, color is an integral part of your art direction now, and this game looks BLAND and washed out. I'm excited for it but this unsaturated scheme doesn't suit metroid at all.

The family is keeping their grandfather alive by putting him inside a black person's body as a vessel. And then..........they make him do gardening for them??? Why. He's their grandfather.

I get that the grandfather likes running and wants to run around. Why TF does he decide to run at night time, in his normal-ass working clothes instead of running clothes, and why does he run straight toward the protagonist, other than to make the scene feel scary. Why not just run in the daytime, wearing actual running clothes? It feels like there's no in-movie reason, it only exists to appear scary to the audience.

Similarly, their grandmother is transferred into Georgina, the housemaid, and near the beginning there's a scene where she is pouring tea for everybody in the yard and she accidentally spills some of it. And the rest of her family scolds her sharply, implying they're racist or classist against her and that they view her as a pariah. But she's not "just" a maid, she's their matriarch. Why treat her so aggressively? It's clearly not an act, because there's no reason for them to want the protagonist to think they don't like her.

These were intended to be unsettling / scary clues that something is wrong here, but in retrospect when you find out the truth, they just don't make sense and it makes me kind of roll my eyes at what otherwise feels like a pretty good movie.

I think that gender just genuinely is complicated sometimes. Clearly the existence of transgender people shows that your identified gender doesn't always match your body. If that's the case, then I can easily imagine people who feel an equal identification with each gender, or people who feel out of place with both. If it's anything like transgender people, I think it's a deep feeling from within, rather than a glib label for androgynous people.

Which isn't saying that there AREN'T people who use it glibly -- just that I think there are genuine cases of people who feel like they don't match either gender perfectly.

I love the idea that somebody would create a genuinely revolutionary human-passing AI with unparalleled language comprehension, facial recognition, unscripted animation, and text-to-speech technology that sounds so real it's indistinguishable from actual voice acting,

The writing is bad, which is what the game was mostly prided and sold on. Super Metroid and Metroid 2 have an elegant stories with emotional endings. Metroid Fusion has an intriguing and exciting story with a threat that feels real and mature. Other M's writing just feels like bad sci-fi anime.

The gameplay is not terrible but it's merely adequate. Not even close to the calibre of other Metroid games.

Visually it also looks disappointing.

One last thing is, gay pride exists solely for LGBT people. We don't celebrate pride so that we can appear normal to you. We do it so that other LGBT people can see that it's ok to celebrate these attribute rather than be ashamed of them. We've had decades/centuries of voices telling us we're gross/hellbound/embarrassing, pride IS how we reject that, and we don't do it to appease straight people or convince them we're just like you. gay pride IS our voice and it's how we reject the hate.

I believe you that kids called you gay slurs and beat you up at your baseball field. Homophobia and toxic masculinity can hurt straight guys, too.

But you still can't know what it's actually like to be gay. Your parents didn't disown you for being gay. You never even had to *worry* about that possibly happening. Most gay people spend their entire adolescence worrying about what their friends and family will think.

You don't ever need to be wary of negative/hostile reactions whenever you hold hands with your partner in public.
You grew up in a society that celebrated and applauded your sexual orientation rather than shamed it. You never had to hide your sexual orientation in fear of what would happen if somebody found out, and you never had to stop to think whether it's safe to mention/introduce your partner around each new person you meet in case they aren't gay-friendly. When you see people saying degrading things about gay people, or talking about how gay people will burn in hell, or when you see gay people stereotyped as predatory/weak/pedophiles/other degrading things, you don't experience that burning shame in the back of your head, because it's not you they're talking about. You don't have to set up a mental buffer. And when those kids called you the f-word and beat you up, you weren't actually a gay person and they weren't attacking you for your core being.

I know you can have empathy. that's good. you SHOULD try to understand what other people experience. But don't pretend you ACTUALLY know what it's like, because you don't and you can't.

You clearly don't know gay history because you don't even know what the point of gay pride is, you think it just exists so companies can make money. You made this topic flippantly, without any GENUINE, earnest consideration of why pride exists. You don't know what it's like to be gay, and you don't know what gay pride is for.

The talent shows created and run by simon cowell (got talent, x factor, etc) are all maudlin crap that's more heavily processed than a Twinky.
