VG music seems like it has to be listened to while playing the game otherwise you lose a lot of the emotion it's trying to evoke. But again this is coming from someone who doesn't listen to music. Side note, I did really enjoy the Chrono Cross intro music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=923fVDDwaHo but it's something I'd never want to listen to just walking through the park or something. Always prefer listening to the natural sounds such as the faint noise of human chatter, wind breezes, bird noises, cars beeping in the background (assuming it's a park in the city), and whatnot. I've tried listening to music while walking outside, but I feel very uneased. Like I feel like I've lost my sense of hearing and I'm more vulnerable to uncertainty. And then there's the whole thing where it distracts my thoughts. --- |

Like I can hear a song and be like "oh that's a good song" and I'll replay it maybe once at home. But for the most part I prefer silence or the natural sounds of the earth 99% of the time. However I understand the importance of music in movies and video games, and its integral nature to evoke the emotion on me and the audience. Outside of that I found music to be very distracting on the current thing I'm focusing on. The question I dreaded the most in life was "so what type of music do you listen to?" I'd always be honest, and unfortunately everyone would think I'm weird. Another thing, I also remember as a kid that I really enjoyed classical music. A lot of the stuff that other people listened to like pop always sounded really bad to me. I think I may not have musical anhedonia, but I just dislike a lot of music that other people enjoy, and I was too afraid to really enjoy the things I liked because other people would think it's weird. I actually thought about this a bit more, but humans have only been constantly listening to music only fairly recently with the invention of portable music players. I'd say for a large portion of human history humans went without music for long periods. It's interesting that the majority of the human race collectively evolved with a desire for perpetual music. Recently, I have been getting high (legal in CA) almost everyday. And I've actually grown to appreciate music and the emotions it evokes. I'm starting to listen to a lot more music. I've been listening to a lot of Avicii and other EDM. I don't understand the lyrics in a lot of songs, and I get caught up in trying to understand them and fail to enjoy the music. (maybe that's why I enjoyed classical music and background scores for movies and video games as a kid?) --- |
