Why can't it be genetic in nature? We know that people from different parts of the world are genetically predisposed to having different illnesses at different rates, don't we?

If that were true, wouldn't the results be less crazy?

I mean 49.6 and 90.2 per 100,000 men for all other races but 158.3 new diagnoses per 100,000 men for black people?

Over triple that of whites?

That's a lot to say "Oh it's just genetics in racial disparity."

Even the scientists think so, which is why they are baffled.

If a person thinks someone is cute and verbally says so, that is the same thing as eyeing someone. He is expressing a sexual attraction to that person and that person happens to be underage.

Oh please.

Saying cute means "Thing I want to fuck" is silly.

I don't think you should couple cute with sex just because it can potentially be used in that context.

The hypothesis is that African-American men are uniquely exposed to high levels of social adversity, such as discrimination, crime, financial strain, and poor resource environments over their lifetime, explained Martin.

What we also know, in terms of genetics, is that there may be some genetic variants that are associated with aggressive prostate cancer, that are unique to African-American men, but not seen in other populations.

When it comes to best-practice advice, its best, as always, to speak with your doctor. Prostate cancer typically develops in men after they turn 40, meaning its important for middle-aged men to be vigilant.

I personally believe that screening is important for men, and its particularly important for African-American men. Even more important, if someone has a first-degree relative meaning a father or a brother with prostate cancer, they should be screened and educated appropriately, said Clinton.

Martin says that understanding cancer disparities is key to developing the strategies and treatments of the future.

As we move toward personalized medicine and implementation of 21st-century cures, its important to ensure that every person has the opportunity to benefit from research advances, she explained. This study will help to advance an important research priority for NCI, which is understanding factors of cancer disparities, and in particular, prostate cancer disparities.

We hope that increased knowledge of the factors that cause prostate cancer will provide us with new ways to identify African-American men, and men in general, who are at risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer and hopefully also help us in terms of the development of positive screening and prevention strategies.

Prostate cancer is, aside from skin cancer, the most common cancer diagnosed in American men. Hundreds of thousands of men are diagnosed with the disease every year, and statistically about 1 out of every 41 men will eventually die of prostate cancer.

Perhaps the most dramatic statistic when it comes to prostate cancer in the United States is the way that prevalence varies among different racial groups. Among four groups white, American Indian, Asian or Pacific Islander, and Hispanic the rate of new diagnoses is anywhere between 49.6 and 90.2 per 100,000 men.

For African-American men, however, the rates are much higher, with 158.3 new diagnoses per 100,000 men. In fact, African-American men are twice as likely to die from the disease as white men. This disparity is nothing new but even though its long been noted in medical literature, there are no concrete reasons as to why such a gulf exists.

A new initiative, funded through the Cancer Moonshot initiative spearheaded by former Vice President Joe Biden, seeks to understand, and hopefully fix, this disparity.

The $26.5 million study is called Research on Prostate Cancer in Men of African Ancestry: Defining the Roles of Genetics, Tumor Markers, and Social Stress, or RESPOND for short. Its a joint effort of two National Institutes of Health entities (the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

The findings will surely be illuminating, but itll take some time to get there.

This is a five-year grant, so at the end of five years, we expect to have a better understanding of the social and genetic variants that contribute to aggressive prostate cancer, and how those factors interact with each other, explained Damali N. Martin, PhD, MPH, program director, genomic epidemiology branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), told Healthline.

Martin, whos overseeing the project from the NCI, says that while itll be some time before researchers arrive at any conclusions, the knowledge gained will be used to come up with treatment strategies as well as identify men who are at a higher risk.

We hope that increased knowledge of the factors that cause prostate cancer will provide us with new ways to identify African-American men, and men in general, who are at risk of developing aggressive prostate cancer, and hopefully also help us in terms of the development of positive screening and prevention strategies.

Researchers plan to enroll 10,000 African-American men with prostate cancer into the study, where various social, environmental, and genetic factors will be examined.
What are the possible causes?

While health professionals have long known that African-American men are more susceptible to prostate cancer, theres a multitude of potential theories.

Although many people have theorized as to what factors may contribute to it, we still have almost a blank page as to understanding why there is a disparity, Dr. Steven Clinton, director of genitourinary oncology at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, told Healthline.

The table is full of hypotheses, ideas, and concepts about what factors contribute. I dont think theres going to be one, I think there will be multiple factors, and nows the time to invest in understanding it so we can eliminate this very significant disparity in cancer risk and dying from prostate cancer.

Both Clinton and Martin agree that the likely cause for the disparity wont be a single factor, but a confluence of several different factors. To that end, the RESPOND study will examine the way that genetic factors like DNA and tumor samples interact with environmental factors, like discrimination, adversity, segregation, and other environmental stressors.

But if you don't like that genre you will hate it because its generic as hell and nothing new whatsoever.

An Iranian man has been caught on film threatening to shove a tear gas canister down a woman's throat for refusing to wear a headscarf. In the footage the man can be seen approaching the woman with the canister in his hand while other people try to stop him.

The woman can be heard asking him what he's doing with the canister before he responds: 'Yes, I'm going to shove tear gas down your throat. 'Then you won't be able to speak for two days.'

Both campaigns aim to fight against laws which require women to wear the hijab in Iran and fight for women's rights generally. After the video appeared online, the My Stealthy Freedom Twitter account posted a message from the woman involved, which said: 'Look at this man.

'He was driving a car without a license plate. He was even carrying tear gas with him. His mission is to impose hijab on women. 'The only thing that occurred to me at that moment was to take a picture of this ruthless person. These people are the Iranian version of ISIS.'

The video comes after Shapark Shajarizadeh, 42, who was arrested in February after removing her headscarf in Tehran, claimed she has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars. She posted on her personal website that she had been jailed for 'opposing the compulsory hijab' and 'waving a white flag of peace in the street.'

Shajarizadeh was released on bail in late April after Amnesty reported that she had been charged with 'inciting corruption and prostitution'. Her current whereabouts are unknown, and there has been no immediate comment from Iranian officials.

In a video posted on Twitter, Ms Shajarizadeh said she had fled the country upon being released on bail because she feared for her own safety. In the month of February alone, Iranian police arrested 29 women for removing their headscarves in public as part of a campaign known as 'White Wednesdays.'

Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent human rights lawyer who represented Shajarizadeh and other women, was arrested last month. The Islamic dress code, in place since the 1979 revolution, considers veiling obligatory for any female above 13 in Iran and says they should cover themselves from head to toe, while disavowing any figure-hugging clothes.

Breaking the rules can result in fines of up to 500,000 rials (17) and up to two months in prison. President Hassan Rouhani, who came to power in 2013 promising a more moderate stance, has previously said it is not the job of police to enforce religious rules such as those forcing women to cover their hair.

But in April 2016, officials said there were 7,000 undercover morality police reporting on things like 'bad hijab' - a blanket term usually referring to un-Islamic dress by women. Figures are rarely given, but Tehran's traffic police said in late 2015 they had dealt with 40,000 cases of bad hijab in cars, where women often let their headscarves drop around their necks.

These cases generally led to fines and a temporary impounding of the vehicle.

A mother and daughter say their trip to the seaside was ruined when a man repeatedly banged his penis on their window then did a poo next to their car.

They were trying to eat their chips at lunchtime when their car was approached by John Henson who had been on a marathon drinking session.

The mother told the court: The dirty bugger put me off going to Redcar, and it put my off my dinner.
A drunk continually whacked his penis against a car and then did a poo on the floor - as the women inside the vehicle ate their chips. John Henson had been on a marathon drinking session when he ruined the womens' seaside trip to Redcar.

Prosecutor Rachael Dodsworth said that he approached the women near the towns clock tower and whacked his genitals against the car door.

One of the women called him a dirty b****** and threw chips at him and closed her window, telling her mother who was in the passenger seat to do the same. Miss Dodsworth told the court he continued to wiggle his penis around, then tried to get in the car through the window during the incident at midday on June 29.

The mother and daughter, who are not from Redcar, said they used to enjoy visiting the town for fish and chips.

One of the women said: It was obscene and disgusting. I normally go to Redcar with my grandchildren but I was so glad I didnt bring them this time.

A drunk continually whacked his penis against a car and then did a poo on the floor - as the women inside the vehicle ate their chips. They shouted at him to go away and tried to move off but were blocked in.

Thats when he dropped his trousers, turned around, bent forward and did a poo in the street next to them. A witness said: This was an embarrassment for the town of Redcar.

Henson, 44, had been at a nightclub until 4.30am that morning and continued to drink alone until 8am. He had taken cocaine and then went to a friends house. Teesside Crown Court heard that he had a difficult childhood and has been an alcoholic since the age of 22.

He was ordered to pay 100 in compensation to the two women and a witness and given an 18-month community order. A probation worker said: He is disgusted with himself.

When Jennifer Potter ran to save the life of a 3-year-old boy in a swimming pool, she didnt realize that she would also end up saving two more lives in the process.

Potter, who is the assistant manager at an apartment complex in Indianapolis, Indiana, was driving across the property in a golf cart when she heard the youngster calling for help from the deep end of the pool.

Potter immediately jumped into action and ran towards the pool. When she dove in to help the boy, however, she saw that there was another person in distress as well: the boys mother was underneath of her son, holding him up and making sure that his face was above water, even though her own face was submerged.

35-year-old Potter, who is also the mother of a young boy, grabbed the child and the drowning woman and hauled them both to safety.

After Potters colleague called 911, the mother and son were taken to a nearby medical facility. Since the two of them are expected to be okay, Potter was praised for not only saving both their lives, but also saving the life of the pregnant mothers unborn baby.

Id do it all over in a heartbeat, no question.Im just glad I was here really, Potter told WTHR. Thats all I think about because it could hav been much worseIm glad it was a happy ending and were all here today.

In any case, telling more people to read the bible cover to cover is fine with me.

I guess atheists should thank those guys in front of colleges handing out bibles since they are making more atheists?

An atheist being mad at anyone giving away free bibles is a doofus anyway.

Or you couldve just trained the dog not to eat the garbage

The Bhagavad Ghita is word of God(s) dude.

I can tell you've never read it or spoke to anyone who has read it.

It's a fantasy story expressing philosophical ideas and ways to live/interprit life. Millions of Hindus haven't even read it/weren't raised with it and it is part of other Hindu scripture.

Nothing about the Mahabharata legends told is relevant to whether you believe it is the past or not. It's not comparable to the Bible or Qu'ran or monothestic religions. It's not illegal to burn or translate it, it's not the basis or the be-all end all of the religion.

It's just scripture.

To remove the supernatural from a child, you literally have to indoctrinate that out of them. And that is ok. I am not saying that is bad.

I don't get WTF this has to do with anything....

It's also not true.

You don't "indoctrinate" children to not believe in monsters. To imply so is an insult to people who really are indoctrinated into beliefs.

I don't think you know what equivalent means.

Every religion has scripture. Atheism has scripture, I even mentioned 2 books in the OP.

But Christianity, Judaism and Islam are based on the Torah/Bible and Qu'ran respectively. Entirely.

The Eastern Buddism/Hinduism/Sikism religions are not. So much so that people are hesistant to even connect their scripture to the religion as it varies so much.

The Bible and Qu'ran are literally considered the word of God, the basis of the religion and what you are supposed to base your life on.

what's your point? the books exist. you don't have to believe them. I wasn't posting them as proof of the religions. it was to prove TC wrong when he said there is no "bible" for those religions

No more than there is a history of Christians or non-christians becoming atheist from reading the bible.

You are forgetting that many atheists who read it cover to cover where also already atheist or close to being atheist.

Well that's a silly point. You're not born with a religious belief.

IF your religion can only be taught via indoctrination then it's not a very convincing religion.
