Were the laws mine to control, this officer would be the example made. This dude and (if a different officer) whoever killed the man. Everyone else would get 50 years for not doing anything about it.

Perhaps this behavior would die down if we properly demonstrate the consequences for doing so are terrible and inevitable.

But I don't control the laws. But hopefully each and every officer involved face justice.

I know people whove been completely disowned after coming out. These people will disown THEIR OWN CHILDREN because they come out as gay or trans.

Some will do worse. Remember when Eric Porterfield, when asked for his reaction if he found out his children were gay, ominously stated he would "see if [they] could swim"?

Some parents would rather have a dead child than a happy, healthy one that happens to be gay or trans. I don't see a path to reasoning for someone willing to do that.

The perfect golden middle ground where everyone get along if only you speak nicely enough to everyone long enough is a pretty fantasy.

But it's just that.

That isn't to say don't try to reach an understanding, or don't try to resolve issues peacefully. We absolutely should. But the grim reality of life is that some people will not be reasoned with. Some people's hearts have hardened, and attempting to reach out to them is futile.

Nazis for example? History shows us only one thing works with people who choose that ideology.

Regardless of how you may personally feel about Bernie I think you can rationally admit the Democratic party obviously didn't want him as a candidate. It's not some crazy conspiracy. We watched every person drop out and endorse Biden as soon as it looked like Bernie had a chance. Maybe they thought Biden was the best candidate to win the election, maybe they hated Bernie's policies, either way they clearly did not want Bernie to win.

Yeah that was some bullshit for sure, and it really makes me wish we had ranked voting. But it wasn't meant to be.

But is that because you realize that transphobia is an inexcusable trait and there's no point trying to emphasize with people practicing it...

But the thing to remember is to not give up, even during those times where it's so easy to. And I get it "Just don't give up" can ring hollow after you've been knocked down. Again.

As for "story arcs", we're the main character of our story. However, we're all side characters in the game of life. From the least noteworthy among us, to the most famous. We all take Ls and spoilers, one day the book will close on our story.

But some stories are longer than others. Not everyone gets married to their high school sweetheart at 18. Some of us are a slower burn, but you can still get your happy ending.

You just have to have faith that you can, and know that you deserve happiness.

While no side with without their issues, people online using ""both sides"" are more often than not using it to justify, downplay, equalvlate, or otherwise defend the far right.

Saying, for example, that online leftists being rude is no different than literal neo nazis on the far right advocating for murder only serves to deflect negative attention from the latter.

The short version is encouraging people to talk with them and engage them in legitimate discussions instead of letting them remain in their hate-filled echo chambers. It's harder to hate somebody you know. Basically the same story from American X where Ed Norton's character slowly befriends the black guy in prison. Goes from constant death stares to joking about basketball teams.

This is a lot easier when you aren't the people they want to murder. The fact that some people succeded doesn't mean everyone should risk their necks
