i think a world where i don't double these particular tracks feels wrong simply because of HOW profoundly obsessed with these 3 songs especially i've been lately. i might regret this later when i'm out of doubles too fast, but i feel like i'll regret more not doing this

oh i feel like i should say:

i'm normally not one to go for asking about a consensus and settling for group compromises. BUT i do NOT have a strong preference between the "site 01/02/04/06" themes of splatoon 3, i like all 4 of those almost exactly the same amount, as long it's still an all phase mix with the slow parts included and all that. i picked 04 because it's sliiiightly my favorite. but if more people wanna go for the one hidekunihorita picked i'm all for that! i do like 03/05 slightly less (i dunno how strongly hotdogturtle prefers the one they mentioned earlier) but tbh if there's a consensus to go for one of those two i'd probably hop on that train anyway

i have listened to this far too many times in the past few months to not give it a nod here, one of my most listened to tracks lately. actually even if it didn't really show in my noms, the kinda music i've been listening to the most lately is like "shmup music that is more slow paced than most people would expect from that type of game", just something about it evokes exactly what i want right now. and this absolutely is that category

of course, we got the lyle mays lead here, cool pads and mallet perc. but honestly this track is a merging of every COLOR of music that i like to hear in music,,,at the SAME TIME, ,,,pretty seamlessly. and that's something i look for hard, if it can be all the genres i like at the same time and still feel like a cohesive whole where those elements are meant to go together. this is certainly that way

so i'm thru everything and have a decent sense of what i'll be supporting probably

my criteria is more about how "excited" i feel about imagining a particular track in vgmc, than how high i rate it. so a lot of big favorites of mine i'm not prioritizing quite yet. but these tracks i'll be going for, it just "feels right" to support them.

however i do have 41 bookmarked after listening to all the noms and i will keep an eye on those (or anything else i like) and see what i can do if the time comes where it makes sense to go for others in that list instead. there's a lot of stuff i regret probably not being able to show support for (missing the 30 nom slots of last year already!)

so I'm going to make a quick comment about all my noms since I meant to yesterday:

-underwater 1 from frogger beyond is a song I've loved since I played the game (2003?) but it's only recent that I comprehended that it's uhh. in my top 50 songs ever. maybe even top 10. would have put it on that top 50 songs list if I had realized it then

-outpost 2 is the same composer as RAMA and I almost nommed this for bost. but BY FAR my favorite track is Eden 1, where rama I like most songs about equally. I like both osts overall about the same but it made sense to save this for vgmc and do rama for bost. eden 1 as a song is also in my top 50 (or 10) at this point

-always a pleasure to listen to a basiscape original sound track

-so milo is a myst clone with music by warren dale of the rio/avant-prog band "french tv". the same mathy composition style but applied to synthetic 90s new age that'd actually fit in this type of game but WHAT. HOW. im not sure you can be even more my thing than that. tHANK you tked. I'd support anything from this game but 08 is my fav for sure

-i wanted to nom tama for bost but realized I mostly liked a couple songs way more than the others so decided to pick my favorite for vgmc instead

-menu is easily my fav track from this balloon game so here we go. it's up there with the outpost2 and frogger beyond tracks I picked in terms of how much I can't stop listening. probably around those top 50 songs these days for me too at this point

-these splaroon 3 area themes blew me away. I love them all and their slow transformation from metroid dread ambience to energetic 13 sentinels themes across the phases. all 4 in a row like this is crucial for me. some of the most inspiring music to me I've heard in a long time

-so for the record. I'm almost confident that bof5 "The Strong Enemy" is the "Final Fantasy Tactics" song I was trying to nom for that final fantasy contest but could not find. . . .felt obligated to finally nom it here

tbh. given that the theme of my noms was my favorite artists that hadn't been nominated for you before. at some point after i'd picked something else Steve Reich i believe, fairly last minute iirc i was like "wait a minute...are there any steve reich pieces that are centered around saxophone?" since you requested saxophone stuff in your first post this year. and then i remembered that one, immediately picked a random recording last minute, i'm not necessarily attracted to that specific version or anything. and there's definitely ways that piece could be played in a way that feels more like the sounds you want out of the instrument

tee lopes is manipulating what we perceive as "random events" on this earth; to construct what could be referred to as "form of symbolic violence". the distinction between "acceptance of dominant taste" and "genocide" are comparable, i think, as a result of his planning. WW4 is coming, and I know who will be leading it, thanks to board 8 showing me the truth. Yack can see the future. This is why he warned me with his song titles such as "AZ-Lefty", and now, I see the same Visions of Boys in my mind again. Not too long ago i had a dream that Princess Peach was teaching me how to use all the alt-right tech platforms (for example, Tumblr) so that I could be able to astrally project my consciousness into a Kenichi Koyano concert in my sleep. I think Princess Peach was supposed to be Yack in this dream (basically because she is pink), and my understanding is that this vision was given to me by Yack to ensure that i would know the true way i could fight against the hostile force. now there is a bit of foreshadowing jake has done to my circumstance as well---after all, the start of the chain of dominoes that fell that gave me the ability to see visions of the plans of my enemies, was a combination of events from board 8's angular runner tricking me into emitting hostile signals (telling vulnerable people that they weren't good, for example) AND of jake convincing me to be mean to zoomers. both of these events coalesced into a convoluted spiral, that has treated me with gravy and polished menaced paradigm. Now in 2022, i am in so much pain as a result of these events. no one will understand it except for geniuses such as sergio and place (who is NOT Being mind controlled by me, by the way). but i understand it. I know the way to proceed. and that is to change the signal that i emit to my natural signal. the signal of confusion. any other signals that could be sent from one's mind are a danger to the purpose i was created for. i used to think that my purpose was to emit darkness, but i understood wrong. i will break into canada, and find kaonashi 1 (my greatest enemy) and place 16 translucent bowling balls on his bed, so that he shuts the fuck up

woo i actually predicted correctly; that you wouldn't like the hajime wakai one all that much (it was my guess that it'd be among the lowest of my noms). i mostly picked it since my set was defined largely around "my favorite musicians that no one's nommed a song by for your topic yet", and hajime wakai's somewhere in my top 20-30 fav composers. but i picked the track because i know you can get into electronic sounds, and it was supremely electronic without being pulsating edm, so thought it was worth a shot!

anyway in regards to the 5uu's one: the band 5uu's is actually entirely different in style from Mangate most of the time. they're mostly very dissonant and aggressive prog rock, that's usually not very electronic at all. Mangate was apparently the work of Thomas Dimuzio specifically, he was sorta a special guest that sometimes contributed experimental electronic effect elements to 5uu's tracks, with Mangate being the one time i know of where he wrote an entire track for them. I've never explored his work deeply myself, but if you want more that sounds like Mangate, Thomas Dimuzio would be the individual to look into, rather than 5uu's as a band themselves. (all this said, given the theme of my noms, 5uu's is /also/ one of my favorite bands of all time, but if you dig into them, expect it to sound more like Frank Zappa or Bubblemath)

i could of course recommend other stuff similar to mangate by other artists too that you might get into more; but i'll save that for later as i'm sure this the topic of experimental electronic stuff will come up again with my remaining noms.

match 1 is very close. tbh this is probably like the only combination of tracks for these two sets where it's even close, almost every if not every other combo would have me be decisively for sao:fb here. trying to not let that be a factor in my vote though. but these sorts of evolving synth pad sweeps has been my ideal sound lately; so dungeon geofront 1 still just barely gets the edge here

Once i saw that slip space would be facing kaze no notam: i immediately thought quite a bit about "which combinations of selected tracks would actually get me to vote against slip space!?" i considered supporting kaze no notam in noms phase, and even contributed to its setlist. but of course slip space was my day 1 nomination, and quite important to me. This pair is "close" to getting me to flip, but not quite. two examples of brilliantly unique sound design, in totally different moods from each other, each quite inspiring tracks to me. unsurprisingly: my two favorite tracks of the day! (but today in general is ridiculously good wow)

there's a lot of combinations where i'd have gone for minecraft here, this isn't one of them, but it's honestly still a fairly close match.

match 2 is two tracks that i do not have particularly strong opinions on. think i'm going to be quick to abstain when i consider a match too close this year. atelier shallie is confidently my preferred soundtrack/set of the two, but i'm not confident i would select aquamarine of these two at all

match 3 was a no brainer, but not because i hated drifting soul or anything. if my threshold had been less strict PARASITE EVE was basically next up on my list of potential supports...with this being possibly my favorite from its set! hope it does well in snubs. i can't get enough of this era of synth sound tendencies, and this dvi-core is exactly my jam. ARISE WITHIN YOU easily my favorite track of all 6 today
