Heck lets h ha ve the government provide liscences for wht jobs you can apply for. Lets have the government also predetermine how much you are paid as salary so that way no amount of work would merit a better standing. I mean why should a doctor who went to school 8 years +internship get more money than walmarts door greeter who cannot pass a drug test without buying it from his neighbors kid. Does it matter? If the landlord built it, it's their property, and they can do what they want with it. If someone else built it, the landlord purchased it (or used some means to obtain it) and it is legally their property...and they can do what they want with it. Who built the property makes zero difference.

a lot of landlords just buy up tons of property for the sole purpose of renting it though. they can charge whatever they want and it drives up property prices and forces tenants to essentially pay the mortgages for their landlords. they make shelter less accessible, not more

there's obviously nuance here but to say "they can do whatever they want with it" is irresponsible. you're arguing that land isn't inherent but also arguing that owning property means you inherently have absolute rule over it, pick your argument
