The Mana Sword 06/23/21 7:08:55 AM #494 | Yeah, Im usually okay with the alternate border treatments they do for each set now, but this is a little too much for me. Thankfully its just a variant. --- |

The Mana Sword 06/15/21 9:15:34 PM #438 | I just saw that Kaoh Rong came in at #17 on the RHAP countdown. This is the first time I thought they were wildly off. Thats like 12 spots too low. --- |

The Mana Sword 06/12/21 6:26:28 PM #485 | Went 3-0-1 with a pretty mediocre BW reanimator deck. Got a foil Verdant, nonfoil Verdant, Mesa, Cabal Coffers and Yavimaya in my pool. Foil retro Ignoble Hierarch and a regular Solitude in my prize packs. p good --- |

The Mana Sword 06/12/21 9:21:54 AM #483 | Yeah, the mana fixing seems really good in general, which usually leads to good limited formats. Being able to actually play all your good cards is fun, turns out. --- |

The Mana Sword 06/12/21 9:01:33 AM #481 | Going to one this afternoon. Ive heard a lot of good things about this sealed format so Im pretty excited. --- |

The Mana Sword 06/11/21 9:27:39 PM #478 | Its definitely situational, but yeah that could be a beating against certain decks. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 06/09/21 5:01:45 PM #470 | UR is still going to be a disproportionately large part of the meta, but I'm glad they decided to go this route first and see how it goes. --- |

The Mana Sword 06/06/21 11:11:35 PM #464 | I do hope they at least give the meta time to fix itself before doing an immediate reactionary ban, but thats not really how things tend to go these days. --- |

The Mana Sword 06/06/21 10:55:25 PM #462 | Im not trying to downplay how good Brainstorm is. I play legacy, I know how good it is. Im personally of the opinion that its not necessarily too good for historic. I am admittedly biased because it helps the kind of decks I like to play and hurts what I think is the actual most unfun card in the format to play against (Thoughtseize). A lot of the blame can be leveled at Wizards for completely unbalancing the Archive cards though. Like, yeah, no shit Izzet decks are going to be good when you juice up blue with Brainstorm, Memory Lapse, Faithless Looting, Time Warp, and the other colors barely get anything. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 06/06/21 10:34:33 PM #459 | Im not really convinced Brainstorm is the problem, but I think its likely to die for other cards sins, as Wizards is often wont to do. I dont think Phoenix and Jeskai control are problem decks, theyre just good decks that happen to play Brainstorm. Jeskai turns is an issue. Maybe killing Brainstorm makes the deck too inconsistent to function, but I suspect thats not going to be the case. --- |

The Mana Sword 05/28/21 1:00:16 PM #446 | Damn That card is...almost strictly better than Wrath of God? Unless the color of the card matters, which isn't often. I guess this does get hit by Inquisition and Spell Snare. Still, great card. --- |

The Mana Sword 05/26/21 9:51:33 PM #440 | I love it! Actually, it's almost not even weird enough for me. After they previewed Urza's Saga weeks ago, I was expecting even more off the wall stuff than we've gotten so far. --- |

The Mana Sword 05/21/21 8:52:56 AM #401 | I know Ephemerate is better, I'm just saying for the purposes of doing the turn 1 blink Grief combo, they're essentially the same. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 05/21/21 8:08:17 AM #399 | If something needs to get banned, I doubt its Ephemerate. You still have Cloudshift in that case, which essentially serves the same purpose. Well see. Its a cute combo, but filling your deck with mostly do-nothing cards like Ephemerate doesnt seem like something you want to do, even for a nice payoff like that. Plus its a 4-card combo to pull off turn 1, so Im not particularly concerned about the implications. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 05/20/21 10:49:33 PM #394 | Yeah, the Dragon is a cute callback, but I dont think itll see much play outside of Commander. --- |

Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 05/20/21 12:56:26 PM #380 | I tested a Jace list this morning a bit and it's not great. The slow down from needing 6 mana from 4 is pretty detrimental against a lot of decks. Maybe someone will come up with a more solid list at some point, but I don't really think the deck is worth playing at this point. --- |

The Mana Sword 05/19/21 6:42:22 AM #372 | I hope they dont, its my favorite deck to play in a long time. But a URL for a ban announcement today exists in the Wizards website (though its not live yet), and I cant imagine what else would warrant a ban right now. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 05/18/21 9:37:58 PM #369 | Yeah, I would always cast Oracle, hold priority, then cast Pact in response so everything was already on the stack. Again, not that it mattered because Ive never actually timed out, but still. And it extra wont matter because theres a B&R announcement coming tomorrow to take the deck out back behind the woodshed. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 05/17/21 7:16:33 PM #365 | Unless youre really slow I dont think theres any way to realistically rope out during the combo. Ive gotten close once or twice but even then I had at least 1 time extension available after rifling through 40+ cards. Ill be interested to see how they handle it. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 05/17/21 5:13:59 PM #363 | I started playing the Tainted Pact deck in historic for a bit. I actually think it's fairly fun to pilot, it's not a braindead combo deck like Tibalt's Trickery where you just mull to the combo and faceroll. It's more of a control deck with a combo wincon. That being said, I fully expect either Oracle or Pact to get banned in the very near future just because of the logistics of the win taking too long. I wish people would just scoop more often, but about 75% of games the opponent makes me click decline 40 times. --- |

The Mana Sword 05/08/21 12:07:35 PM #346 | Deck looks pretty good, shame it didn't work out. I keep thinking about taking a shot at it, but 4.5k gems is a lot and I don't really like sealed all that much, so ehhhh. --- |

The Mana Sword 04/30/21 9:52:35 PM #315 | I think Crackle is worth stretching your mana a bit, but probably not to this degree. If those Quandrix Campuses were Prismari Id be more hopeful about it. Spectacle Mage should definitely not be in here, and as plum said Reject is actively bad. I think Soothsayer sucks too. I think youre probably better served just playing two colors because that mana base is -really- stretched to accommodate Crackle, even if the card is extremely good. --- |

The Mana Sword 04/28/21 10:35:52 AM #303 | There are definitely a lot of decision points, but I haven't found it excessively difficult the times I have played (my play rate is probably similar to yours). But I also have a natural inclination towards more controlling decks and personally have harder time piloting aggro, so YMMV. --- |

The Mana Sword 04/28/21 10:17:19 AM #301 | I don't bother too much with Standard these days, but it seems like Sultai is still probably the "best" deck right now. --- |
Topic | Magic the Gathering: Kaldheim spoiler season etc |
The Mana Sword 04/27/21 4:33:11 PM #297 | masterplum posted... Its worse in this format. You can get obliterated by decks that never play a flier too easily Yeah, Kaldheim specifically had a lot of targets for something like Broken Wings with all the sagas and viable equipment running around. In best of 1 you were definitely able to make a case for running a narrow card like that in the main. This set has almost zero artifacts worth mentioning, so that half of the card is entirely worthless in 98% of your games. There are a few good fliers even at common in the format, but it's still too narrow for my tastes to spend a slot in the 40 in a best of 1 match. --- |

The Mana Sword 04/23/21 6:06:31 PM #279 | Drafted a pretty silly deck with 2x Returned Pastcaller, Time Warp, Lorehold Command and Prismari Command. The mana base was jacked up, so I only got 3 wins, but looping Pastcallers forever is fun. --- |
