My guy, you and I both have seen how ridiculously lenient the judicial system has been to Donald Trump. Even before he was POTUS he skated by on being a rich white male, post Presidency it's that x100. The only fools are those who think Trump will be held to the same standards as anybody else when we've literally already seen that's not the case.

I'm hoping Merchan finds his spine and ends Trump's bullshit, however even Chutkan has given Trump leniency I doubt she'd give anyone else.

I dunno, Merchan has been one of the most fair judges Trump has had, he's just starting to drop the ball now that Trump's trying to call his bluff on jailing him. Yeah it's ridiculous that a dude who only gets their news from Trump Social and Twitter is on the jury, that does worry me. I guess all we can do is hope they have some sort of integrity.

I don't think he's dropping the ball on jailing him. I think he's ready to do it even if it's just locking him in a room for a few hours.

I guess Democrats refused to throw Johnson out because he hasn't lied to them yet. He's just been honest about being a far-right conservative and not wanting to pass their bills. McCarthy reneging on deals really was the reason he got thrown out.

MTG has never run anything, all her proposals flop and she was kicked out of the Freedom Caucus. They only give her trivial seats on committees to placate QAnon types.

It makes sense. Why should they save someone who would throw them under the bus. Plus Johnson is in a really bad spot even if he isn't removed. A 1 seat majority is really hard to govern with.

The standard for disqualification of a judge from a case is high enough that unless Smith gets his hands on a signed document by Cannon stating specifically that she is doing this to benefit Trump, it isn't gonna happen.

A specific pattern of behavior in rulings works too.

Take that up with the legislature. His hands are tied when it comes to fines and putting him in jail is tricky because 45 is trying to to martyr himself. Though this could be solved if his smart phone was taken away for the duration of the trial and he was given a dumb phone.

I'm kind of expecting this. They ultimately don't grant presidential immunity but they find a way to delay Trump's criminal trials until after the election.

Then of course if he wins and pardons himself they'll rule in the inevitable lawsuit that he has the power to do that.

But if he doesn't win, we can then laugh at SCoTUS for being so stupid.

Honestly, I think these judges are playing soft, because if they play hardball, then other courts may overturn their rulings, as we just saw with the Weinstein case.

So by dragging their feet and playing dumb, they can point to a reason why they're going to give harsher punishments. Trump has violated his gag order over a dozen times now and prior to the last judgement, Secret Service was supposedly checking on how they handle jail time for his actions, so since he got off lite last time, it stands within reason that the punishment will incrementally escalate until there's no other option but to hold him in contempt for violating the order and simply jail him.

Supposedly this is what Trump claims to want, but that's because he truly thinks he's untouchable. But once it happens and he isn't able to tweet, truth, or speak about the trial in public at all, he'll realize what a big mistake he's made.

He also wants delays. Gag order hearings cause delays.

He's paying all of his current attorneys for a while now. It's costing him millions. Getting control of the RNC was so he could use their money(what little they have) to pay for his many cases.

Andrew Weissman mentioned that the judge could rule on a delayed jail time for violating the gag order. Basically after the trial Trump could spend time in jail.

I think the judge will also rule that either Trump can not use social media, or his lawyers are responsible for monitoring his social media usage.

That makes sense. It would punish him, but also not allow him to make himself some sort of martyr during the trial.

But it's not okay to delegitimize the terrorism on oct 7, to legitimize Hamas, or generally spread hate of Jews at the same time.
