I tend to use it now every time I start a new game because fuck going through all that every time. I was thinking in the colors of the Legendaries themselves so I had things confused. In addition to what others have said, in terms of story progression, White goes into Black 2, and Black goes into White 2. Also, if you have 2 DS's you can do a Memory Link to to bridge the two games and unlock some stuff in the second. There's a ton of features on there that I used a lot throughout my 100+ hour playtime that would absolutely ruin the experience for me if I tried to play without them in the vanilla version. Bought it a few months after release and it has been one of my most played consoles ever. Strangely enough, my regular 3ds's battery still works fine. And that one's even older than my XL. And to those wondering, there's a hardware store near my place that accepts rechargeable battery disposal, so no worries there.
