Looks like NET didnt do well enough or something. Lesson learned! Will not proceed with this strategy. Thanks for the advice too.

Since turning 30, I decided to start doing things with my money. Including investing it and buying stuff for myself. Some of you may recall me buying a brand new car in the earlier versions of these topics.

I started saving at a very young age. Like, in my late teens before I even started working full-time. I then sacrificed my social life to move up in my field. As I accrued more money, I dumped it all into savings. I lived a frugal life.

Btw, I chose NET because it meets all the criteria that I listed. Reliable since Covid, has done well on prior reports, etc. Is this foolproof? Of course not. But my point is, this will be a good representation to help make me choose whether to continue this behavior.

I only put in $25k. If this goes down over 10%, itll have saved me a much bigger loss down the road from trying with $100k.

Its not as though in choosing random companies that have their earnings coming out. Im choosing ones that have strong histories, have done well on prior earnings, have been around for a while, and are not negatively prone to covid. Id like to give myself some credit for identifying these stocks to date. I know the streak wont last forever, but I reckon this is better than hoping for 1-3% gains over the course of a week.

I am strongly considering investing $100k into stocks that have their earnings come out at close, and banking on them going up. I recognize that this has potential to backfire. But if I choose the stocks carefully enough, the worst case is they drop 20% and I am forced to hold until they regain traction, which they should because Id be picking consistent stocks.

I put $26k into CRWD. It has been going up since Covid, Motley Fool recommended it, its earnings are in one month (they always crush the expectations, last time was by 18,000%), and I like the stock!

For those getting in on BMBL, remember the formula if youre not holding long:
  • Set limit above suspected opening price
  • Stare at market until BMBL opens
  • Pray for an early surge
  • Sell once the dip comes, if it does!

SQ doing well so far.

Its messed up that every trade we make is literally only a 65% realized gain. I always knew that wed have to pay taxes on them but 35% seems insane.

Theres something to be said to putting half your money in 1-3 stocks that you leave for one year minimum, solely for the tax benefit. This has been an Uber bull market so we probably should have done this back in like, March but oh well.

That would actually apply to all of us who sell stocks under a year.

If stock A yields you 10% under a year of holding, you effectively get 6.7% of it after taxes.
VERSUS
If stock A yields you 10% over a year of holding, you effectively get 8.5% of it after taxes.

The difference here is in the top example you have the ability to invest in other stocks once you sell since your funds wouldnt be tied up.

I set my AVTCW limit but it hasnt hit. And such a small percentage of stocks go up over even 20%, its unrealistic to expect nothing but triple digit gains. You shouldnt condemn people for being happy about less.

With that being said, Im making more of an effort to invest in the potential big stocks. Im keeping an ear for what this topic mentions.

So Ive been teaching my friend about earning reports and trend analysis, etc. As such, he went into Zillow with me yesterday. I intended on holding until tomorrow AM but I wanted to show him how to sell using limit orders and whatnot. He uses Robinhood, which I am unfamiliar with, so I was guiding him over the phone. In short, we sold Zillow at around 8% AH gain. Its currently at 13%! Wild stock. I made about 12% total on it, a sweet $2,300 gain.
