It's crazy high damage, doing twice as much to a group than one regular attack

edit: redid my skills to go down 1 handed to grab falcon slash and gigaslash for the impending kraken fight
those of you who did it, did you activate the cannons?

Yeah I did, I thought it was required but turns out it was optional.

Also trolling people by walking into their bundles of wood causing their chopped wood to scatter on the ground, sadly you can't do this to every bundle.

I have no idea why I ordered a physical edition. I could have bought it digitally and be playing now. Plus I'm planning on playing Spiderman along side it so I'll be swapping discs all the time. I'm dumb, still I should have it in 8 hours or so.

Anyone know how suitable this is for children? My daughter has seen pictures of it and thinks it looks really fun, she's 5. We played through most of Ni No Kuni 2 together and that was fine, actually easy enough that she could handle most regular battles.

I think DQ is very kid-friendly. Cheery atmosphere, music, and dialogue. You guys will have fun laughing at all the puns, monster, and location names and such.

In regards to the whole remake deal, it's always been marketed as a full fledged remake, which is what people asked for foryears.

Remaking the combat isn't what people were asking for.

People played FFX and said, "wouldn't it be cool if they remade FF7 with voice acting and these graphics?"

They didn't say "I hope they change the fundamentals of the game and remove some of the enemy encounters and take away bosses and basically change it but have it keep the same name".

The one mistaking remake and remaster is people like you.

FFIV for the DS is a remake. NOT a remaster.

Guess what? FFIV for DS still is the same game. It has the same bosses and encounters. The combat is almost completely identical. You have the same flow of the story and gameplay. But guess what? It was entirely remade. The assets of the old game were not reused.

Did I just blow your *********** mind?

You see, remaking a game actually does not entail changing the design of the game.

Remaster actually means you take the graphics as they were and make them look better. This is not what is being asked for. People want NEW models. Keyword, new. No one wants them to re-use the lego models and just make them look better.

Now, if you take a game and throw the design of the game at the wall and mash it to pieces, you don't call that a remake.

You call that....

A REBOOT.

So you have exclusive first hand evidence that enemy encounters and bosses are non existent? We've straight up seen Guard Scorpion and Cloud on the bridge surrounded by Soldiers, and jumping down onto the passing train like in the original.

I don't recall ever saying FF IV on the DS was a remaster, it's pretty evident it's a remake which as detailed above has some pretty substantial changes from the original, plus it was made easier.

As far as calling it a reboot, at this point in time we know next to nothing outside the bits we've seen. If they decide that Sephiroth is now President of Shinra. Reno, Rude, and Elena are taking on Sephiroths roll, Aerith has a slapping fight against Marlene on a giant cannon while under attack by Weapon, and Tifa is now flat chested, then I believe it's fair to assume it's not faithful and would definitely be a reboot.

That's actually kind of the entire f***ing point.

Remaking a game isn't to make it unrecognizable.

If that was the case, they should remove cloud and take out all the iconic music.

That appears to be what you want.

SwayM posted...
It should be the FF7 they would make with modern technology and game design. Not forced into using outdated, archiac systems because internet babies can't handle change.

Rpgs aren't archaic. Action games are just as old.

Why not just make a modern rpg?

In regards to the whole remake deal, it's always been marketed as a full fledged remake, which is what people asked for foryears. It just so happens in this case people frequently mistake what a remake and remaster are. There's a reason older PS1/PS2 games are labled as remasters (i.e Kingdom Hearts HD, The Last of Us, etc.) instead of remakes, with the exception of games like SotC, REmake 1 and 2, etc.

It makes you friends points, pointless.

The real problem with ffxiii wasn't autobattle, it was how slow the game had you gain actual skills.

i feel like it's a bit of both and the fact that games where all your party members are basically clones of each other in skillet aren't as fun as when they all have their own unique skills

Maybe. The thing is, why not use autobattle if it is going to do the same thing you would do anyways?

That is why to me the prob is the lack of skills.

Autobattle in the game with tons of options would have not been used as much do you agree?

But if all I am going to do is ruin x3, I have no reason to not just let auto do it for me

This was actually one of the common arguements involved with auto-battle use. People said "it's just going to do what I'm going to do anyway."

So some of use tested that theory out. With full Libra, detailing what an enemy is weak/strong against completed.

One particular enemy in the mines on Gran Pulse is weak to electricity, so the better attacks would be Thunder or Sparkstrike back to back for maximum damage.

Auto-battle as it turns out never once did that. It was some combination of say Fire-Aero-Thunder-Fire-Aero-Thunder.

That's only exploiting weakness 2 times out of 6 and not the better option.

Depends on the player mostly. If you're the type to just use auto-battle constantly, then sure the difference may be negligible. But timing your attacks and picking them yourself instead of relying on auto-battle, you can limit the damage you will inevitably take, resulting in more damage and spend less time needing to heal or revive anyone that may end up being KO'ed.

XIII has one of the more interesting combat systems in the series but is overshadowed by auto-battle.

i had a conversation years ago with a friend that went along the lines of saying that ff13 would have ultimately benefitted even slightly from not having autobattle at all, but the ff series is so void of actual difficulty that it doesn't really matter

I more or less agree. The majority of people just used auto-battle thru the entire game, then went to the XIII board and trashed the combat saying it had no depth. When asked if they used auto-battle they all said yes and that they shouldn't be forced to use anything else to if it worked.

Nope. As explained above, the characters move around even though the are technically idle between commands.

this would be nice if the movement made in the battle field actually made large differences in the way most fights played out

trails of cold steel peaked turn based combat imo with how battle position actually does

HOPEFULLY, they never go back to that dumb control / input system.

Not sure what your reply here is supposed to mean. Reis obviously picked up on your sarcasm, and responded to it in kind.

And yes, Reis is right--it's less weird-looking for a 16-bit sprite to wait in a turn-based RPG than for a detailed model.
Didn't FFX have a turn based combat system with higher resolution models?

Didn't FFXIII have a variant of the ATB, but they still just sat there and waiting for animations / attacks to finish?

Well in XIII the characters weren't stationary, they were constantly moving around, that plus attack animations you could use that to completely evade an enemies attacks.

Kind of a shame. 90% of people just used auto-battle then said combat sucked.

But yeah you can have turn based with more realistic looking characters.
